The Saracens Head Hotel
Ranked #28 of 44 Swindon B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

I went to the Saracens Head in Highworth for a meal with my wife and we both thoroughly enjoyed all our courses.

I had the soup of the day (tomato) which was home made and very tasty. It was served with two quarter baguettes. My wife had the quice with relish which was also delicious.

For our mains we both had the sirloin steak that was cooked to perfection and the chips were beautifully homemade and chunky just how I like them.

The service was attentive the atmosphere was just right and the prices spot on.

We'll be going back when we go back down south.

Excellent, thank you.

I think they have changed management recently. My wife and I went there for an anniversary meal yesterday and were amazed at the quality and presentation of what we received. 10/10 for the Pate starter and Steak Main. The chips were also exceptional. Crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. Well worth a visit for the food.

We knew the Saracens Head as a local eatery from when we lived in Highworth, so when planning to visit friends in the area decided to look it up. There are mixed reviews on Trip Advisor, some of which must be from before the rooms were updated. We stayed in a room facing the market square which was a lovely bright large room. The room was clean and comfortable and it was a shame we were only booked in for one night.

The breakfast in the morning was a delicious plate full of bacon, eggs, sausage, beans etc...

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel if you want a quiet room. Highworth is a busy town and so r...

Turned up for Mothers Day to find meal was disappointing. Vegetables were especially unappetising. Meat was ok. Desserts limited choice. Again lacked inspiration.Service was slow but efficient. Good choice of drinks. Restaurant in good position with plenty of parking in its own grounds and in the Market Square. Pub restaurant is comfortable, although heating could have done with being higher.

Visited here after a recommendation from friends and I was not disappointed! Have no comment on the rooms, but the food is at an extremely high standard for what you expect as 'pub food'.. Rump steak and chips could not be any better for just over £6. The waitress was extremely welcoming and checked on me efficiently throughout the night. The barmaids were also friendly and were happy to help. Don't miss this place- doesnt get enough praise.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in for a long time. The pub downstairs is traditional in a lovely town. The hotel itself was clean with modern large rooms. It was a little noisey downstairs, but nothing to disturb a good nights sleep.

Breakfast was lovely with the full English using high quality products.

Visited the Saracens Head, for lunch, recently and was less than impressed.
The menu is pretty basic and uninspiring; I was hoping to find a chilli or curry, instead it was baguettes, jacket potatoes, quiche, etc., all fairly bland and boring.
Opted for an 8oz rump steak and waited...and waited...and waited.
Around 40 minutes after ordering, my steak finally arrived.
It was okay, nothing special. However, the chips were sublime!
I'm a sucker for onion rings and they were tasty.
Sadly, the peas were like bullets!!
Staff, the guy behind the bar, was polite...that's about it!
Absolutely no idea how some reviewers have given the Saracens five stars.
Will I return?
Doubt it.
