My previous visits to the Horse and Jockey pub at Ashton Keynes have always been very positive and after reading the previous review, I had no hesitation in taking my family there for Sunday lunch. Alas, there were several disappointiments. Firstly, the pub allows their two dogs to wander around the restaurant area begging for food from the customers, one being a large Red Setter that puts his head on the tables! The dogs had to be constantly removed by the staff and should never have been allowed in that area. We had drinks with our meal and the glasses were all dirty with limescale(probably fromn a dishwasher). When the meals arrived, they were generally good but the beef was not very tender and the vegetables were undercooked. On the positive side, the prices were very good value for money. Not sure if this place has changed hands recently, but our experience wasn't the same as the perevious reviewer last October.
We all had a roast beef lunch with all the triming

We were looking for somewhere for a lunch time sandwich whilst out walking for the day and after some directions from a local villager (of Aston Keynes), we happened upon the Horse & Jockey pub on Gosditch. Well what a find.....Its small and cosy and a typical olde pub with beams, dark wood and rustic tables / chairs, and we were welcomed by the landlord and offered good hospitality, drinks from the small bar and a food menu. We opted to sit inside but there is an outside area under a large gazebo for those who wish to sit out. The food we had was absolutely delicious - fresh and locally sourced. We got chatting to the landlady and we asked her if they served evening food, and as they did, we opted to go back the following evening for a meal. We were very glad we did as again the food was absolutely spot on - cooked to order from fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Mondays & tuesdays they have a steak meal deal for 2 which includes a bottle of wine and on thursday eve there is an italian pasta night both of which seemed very good value.
It was very reasonable too - we each had starters & mains and then one dessert and coffees, plus our drinks and it only came to £50.
Overall highly recommended for good honest food at a good price.
