“Not Too Authentic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

A friend and I ate here again, the last time being some 15 years ago! The restaurant is very clean with good decor. It gets busy on weekends and was about 40% full on a weekday evening. Service was first rate. Our orders were taken quickly and we didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. Very helpful & friendly staff.

We both enjoyed our food. We thought the quality was excellent, although my friend, who has been on business to Mexico many times, said "Nothing like real Mexican food. It's Mexican food Derby style". The menu is a little limited in choice. You get medium sized portions for a reasonable price. Nowhere near as filling as the average Indian meal, but then you pay less. Our 2 starters and 2 mains + 2 beers and a (very weak) Irish coffee came to around £20 each. Overall, a good eating experience.

“This isn't Mexican!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

Ate here with a. Bunch of colleagues who were celebrating a promotion for one if us. The food was mediocre at best and the mole that one fellow ordered was the worst thing I've tasted in a while. The margaritas were so week we paid to have them add a shot of Tequilla. Worst yet, three of the diners got sick from the meal.

“Go for the BBQ lamb - very good value”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

The menu is relatively basic and appears to be fairly static so don't go here expecting to be wowed with high class original Mexican food. That said, however, my BBQ lamb main course was surprisingly good. The meat was very lean and had probably been marinated because it was incredibly tender and very very good. Cooked "medium" the generous portions of slightly charred lamb were a real delight and completely overshadowed either my starter (calamari - or was it deep-fried onions??) and the lacklustre key lime pie cheesecake. On the whole good value for money though lacks any real punch in terms of ambience or culinary skills - unless you have the BBQ lamb!

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

I have ate here on at least 10 occasions and I have NEVER had a bad meal!! Food is always of high quality...order your food mild or very very hot!! Starters are awesome...main meals are truly melt in your mouth...I feel some reviews don't do this restaurant justice..maybe these people are to used to eating chilli con carne out of a tin...hehehe....BEST RESTAURANT IN DERBY BY FAR....far better than any Mexican chain.....keep up the good work PEPITOS.....

The staff here are friendly, the service is quick, and the portions are king size. All-in-all, good value for money.
