We stayed at Kings Highway for 2 nights as we were doing a long hike up in the Peak District and this wasn't too far away. The staff went above and beyond to help us, from check into check out. The bed was so comfortable and huge, it was luxury! The room is very basic but has everything you need for a short stay. Kettle, biscuits, bottles of water and a TV and hairdryer. We got back from our marathon distance walk and the staff were so lovely, we couldn't get into our room as they key card had stopped working for some reason. They got it sorted really quickly and even gave us some bags of ice for our sore muscles after the long walk! Thank you for a lovely stay :)

Thanks for the great review.

I'm happy to read that we could offer some help with the ice but wish we could have taken the pain away.

We do hope to see you again on your next adventure to Derbyshire.

Thank you

One night stay whilst visiting National Trust Sudbury and Kedleston. The lodge accommodation was ok but not as slick as the competition which is just up the road.We chose to stay here as we prefer the Marstons pubs to the Beafeater brand. The staff were welcoming and efficient. Sunday teatime/early evening had a nice buzz in the restaurant and we enjoyed the 2 steak meals with bottle of wine. Most people were tucking into the Carvery. Had the continental breakfast which was more than adequate. Only got one drink. Would have have been pleased if we had been offered a second cup as milk in our room was off. Sainsbury's garage a handy stroll away is open when everything is closed.

Thanks for leaving a review of your stay with us.

Maybe you could offer advice in how we could be slicker.

I can only apologise for the breakfast staff not offering a second cup as this is something that I will be bringing up with them in the next staff meeting.

We hope to see you again on your next visit to Derbyshire

We called here today for lunch, I had Fish and Chips, my Husband chose Gammon. We both made a big mistake.
The Chips were lovely, but the Fish batter was way over cooked hard and crunchy. My Husbands Gammon was more fat and gristle than meat.Think they are only interested in the Carvery side of the food and the rest goes to pot.
Will we go back again. Definitely not.

Thank you for your comments from your recent visit to The Kings Highway.

I'm sorry to hear that you weren't happy with the food we served to you both on the day in question.

We pride ourselves in providing quality food at a reasonable price but it seems as though on this occasion we have let you down.

If you wish to discuss this matter in person, please contact me at the pub, where I will be happy to talk through the issues that you have raised.

Booked in here as a recommendation from a colleague, as working nearby, ground floor room tidy facing car park. Downside as it was warm we had the windows open, you get the exhaust fumes when cars and vans start in the morning.
The food menu is vast, what we had was pleasant. We will use this as our base when working in the area.

Room tip: ask for a first floor room
