“Comfortable and clean but tired”
Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

Recently spent a night here with other half. A gift from family member. Room large and comfortable but towel rail didn't heat up, bathroom blind broken, a bedroom light didn't work and damp mouldy window frames because of single glazing. As mentioned previously toilet tissue appears on the cheap side. On the plus side the food is great though I would prefer it served on a plate rather than on wood! Fab breakfast on a serve yourself basis so other half happy with that! Staff very polite and helpful.

We took my mother-in-law to this hotel for afternoon tea. We expected to be seated in the restaurant, with linen table cloth & napkins.
Instead we were seated in a lobby / bar area and had to eat off a coffee table.
Afternoon tea is generally a british sedate affair with some lovely music piped in or in some upscale establishments- a piano or a string quartet. We had a TV blaring out with the rugby on.
The food was poor, limp sandwiches, lacking in fillings- no garnish like crisps or salad.
The scones were lovely- still warm & soft, served with cream & jam (no butter).
The tiny cakes looked sweet, but weren't as the sugar had been omitted from the icing!!

Just had a 2 night stay at this Hotel through a KGB deal. Room and bathroom were to a good standard, hotel decor very good and staff friendly. Don't be put off by exterior of hotel as it is typically victorian but the interior was refurbished in 2008. There is a very good Bistro and also a large bar and lounge area which are both reasonably priced, a perfect place to eat, drink and relax in after a day out sightseeing. Would thoroughly recommend it

Room Tip: We had a room at the back, very quiet

Stayed here for one night on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal with a free bottle of wine delivered to our room. Breakfast and dinner were really enjoyable with good quality ingredients. All the staff were polite, smartly dressed and a pleasure to deal with. There were fresh flowers in the reception and bar area and the restaurant was pretty in the evening with tealights and lit branch decorations. The executive room was a good size with quality traditional fittings and furnishings. The bathroom was a little dated but was ok apart from a strange smell when the tap/shower was first run. The shower wasn't very powerful either and the toiletries weren't of a great quality. Wi-fi was free and available throughout the hotel including bedrooms, which is not the case in some hotels. The room was a bit too warm even with the radiator turned off, but we opened a window and it was fine. If the bathroom had been better I would have given this hotel a 5 rating as we really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is right next to the railway station which is handy if travelling by train. The car park was a good size and parking is free for guests. We had a very relaxing stay and the hotel had a lovely traditional feel to it.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the hotel which was very quiet.

Having just returned from a 2 night weekend break at the Hallmark Hotel Derby, I can honestly say it was perfect.
The hotel was very accommodating in extending a January offer into February of 2 nights DBB with a bottle of wine in our room at a cost of £169.00 for both myself and my husband.

The hotel was very well presented, we opted for the double room over an executive one as the furnishings were much more to our liking and had a massive queen size bed.

Both the breakfasts and evening meals were absolutely gorgeous and the staff were very helpful and attentive.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and cannot wait to return.

This was a great priced deal of less than £35 for me and my girlfriend to stay B&B with a later checkout time of 2pm. Despite calling the hotel to check availability of the date we booked, we were not told we needed a printed version of the confirmation code from wowcher in order to check-in. Two people on the reception seemed unhelpful and if i'm honest treated us inferior because we had booked via a discount website. I later went down to the bar area and asked for 2 wine glasses - I was passed two clearly dirty glasses and was reassuringly told "you may need to clean them"! The view from the window was of a run down industrial estate - thankfully covered in snow at the time. The bed was very firm and I didn't get the best nights sleep, the room got very hot even without the heating. On the plus side the breakfast was okay and the girl serving them was very nice and attentive. I suppose you can't go wrong for the price but it is Derby and not London - that said it was a nice trip - Derby has some great little museums and eateries.
