“Few issues but overall a nice stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

We stayed Friday 19th for 2 nights on the B&B and 1 night dinner inclusive package which was very good value. Watch out though when checking out - we told the Receptionist when we arrived that we would like to take our inclusive meal on the Saturday which she said was ok but no notes were made and we were not asked to make a reservation. On check-out we were told the bar snacks we'd had on the Friday had been taken as the inclusive package as it is whatever meal is ordered first. This should have been pointed out but was quickly rectified. Check your bill!!! Others had been caught out by this too whilst we were checking out.
We stayed in room 215 which was on the small side with a very small double bed but a nice balcolny (needed some chairs!) to the front of the hotel.
All food was good and the drinks were the usual fare price wise for a hotel.
There was a wedding party on the first floor balcony of the bar on the Saturday afternoon which overlooked the main bar. This was not a problem apart from the photographer who stood by us shouting at family members up at the balcony so he could get his shot. Not very thoughtful when the rest of us were trying to relax!
The restaurant was very quiet on the Saturday night, We were asked if we'd booked and when we said no the waitress looked at the sheet of bookings and was scratching her head (there were hardly and bookings!). When we got seated it was a lovely meal with plenty of choices.
The pool and steam room were fabulous and it was very quiet on the Saturday afternoon.
So, some things to improve on but overall a good stay.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review in relation to your stay with us here at Menzies Mickleover Court Hotel.
Firstly my I say how pleasing it was to read your comments regarding what was an overall “Good Stay” and your thoughts on our “fabulous pool and steam room” and your “lovely meal with great choices”!
I understand that you had one or two difficulties at Reception on check out with regards to the dinner charges for the two night package. I understand that this issue was explained and dealt with promptly and efficiently by my receptionist on duty. You also noted that you had a problem in the Brasserie Restaurant regarding making a table reservation. I can assure you that this has been looked into and has been resolved.
Mickleover Court Hotel is as you can imagine a very popular venue for Weddings and events, however we do take all customer feedback very seriously and I have taken your comments on board regarding the use of the public areas for such events being held within the Hotel.
Thank you once again for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back to Mickleover Court Hotel on your next stay with us in the very near future.

Kind regards

We recently stayed for a 4 night break and was pleasantly surprised. Unlike many hotels there wasn't a feeling that we were being ripped off. The room was large (we were a party of 3) it had all the usual features and we had a small balcony. We had an empty mini fridge(bar) which we could fill ourselves with drinks which was welcomed as it was very hot. There was open access to the spa which was a godsend for the kids. The restaurant served a nice selection of good quality food and the prices were not extortionate we ate there for 2 nights and at breakfast, my only complaint there was the Sunday morning breakfast was not particularly well organised as a wedding from the night before made it very busy and we spent a long time waiting for our orders, having to reorder twice. perhaps this wasn't the best day to order a special. However all in all a great place to stay, central for a number of attractions and very comfortable. I would be happy to return.

Fantastic hotel, great food (evening meal and breakfast) and bar, very friendly and helpful staff and very comfortable rooms, could not recommend this hotel more. I would defiantly use this hotel again.

We stayed a couple of weekends ago. check in was easy and fast, we upgraded our room and where pleasantly surprised. it was a lovely big room with excellent air conditioning. staff are accommodating and friendly enough although I have seen happier staff. We ate in the restaurant in the evening the food sounds a little pretensious but it's a little bland but very edible. Breakfast was buffet and about the same as most hotels on its class. All in all I would stay again if I got the same room. Biggest problem was the birds at 05:30 each morning.

I stayed here for one night on business. Check-in was dull and the clerk couldn't have cared less. My room was actually pretty well appointed but the windows were filthy. The mineral water, dressing gown and trouser press were very welcome features. The lack of herbal teas was poor.

I suffered a pretty grim dinner on a Formica table with paper napkin; poor service but okay food. The key issue is training. I felt for the poor, young staff. They are clearly thrown in at the deep end. To key issue was a total lack of management. Nobody was in control so the service was random. There was a manager but he seemed totally out of his depth as the two more mature Spanish waiters valiantly battled on without him!

The gym is okay but populated (on the day I was there) by elderly locals all shouting at each other! I usually feel old at my regular gym but I felt like a teenager at Menzies!

Breakfast was terrible. Again, no proper management. The menu said on the front 'Impeccably cooked'; 'Fresh'. Nothing could be further from the truth and Menzies have failed here with Rule # 1 of Marketing 'Never over promise and under deliver'. The reality is cheap juice, watery coffee, a very dull buffet with stagnating trays of rock hard eggs swilling in fat. It was terrible. How difficult is it to cook hot meals freshly - especially when one has a menu suggesting that!

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review following your recent stay. I was however extremely disappointed to read your comments. It would appear that we fell very short of our usual standards on this occasion. I was particularly disappointed to read of your comments regarding the food and service you received in the restaurant I can assure you that we take all comments most seriously and I have discussed your concerns with the management team in detail to ensure that these issues are corrected for the future. Should you wish to contact me directly I would very much value the opportunity to apologise to you personally and hopefully may be given the opportunity to restore your faith in the Mickleover Court Hotel.

We stayed here for one night last weekend and had a very enjoyable stay. There is plenty of parking spaces which are free, check in was fast and efficient and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. We were very pleasantly surprised at just how large and spacious our standard room was, it had all the facilities you could possibly need including a good sized fridge and the bathroom was also very spacious. We were very pleased to discover it had a good sized balcony as the weather was very hot and it was nice to be able to sit outside and catch some rays. We were also very impressed at how quickly reception staff, (especially a young lady called Lauren) were to find out for us if we had left some earphones in our room, which we had, and organise for them to be returned to our home address straight away. All in all we were very impressed and would certainly stop here again.
