Owner description: Royal Crown Derby is one of the original companies founded in the 18th Century that is still producing fine bone china in Derbyshire, England today. The company is the most distinguished, authentic Made in England manufacturer supplying English fine bone china tableware, giftware and collectables since 1750 The present factory was established in 1878, but the business traces its origins to the original factory which was set up in Nottingham Road in about 1750. Queen Victoria granted permission to include the title "Royal" in the company name in 1890. The current site on Osmaston Road, Derby stands on a four and half acre site, employing approximately 200 staff. The Royal Crown Derby Visitor Centre offers a customer experience whether visiting the 1750 Tea Room, Museum, viewing the latest exhibition arranged by our in-house Museum Curator, taking a factory tour to see our first class products being made by hand or purchasing from the onsite retail shop.

It was wonderful to be able to visit a working factory that makes a premium product that is still totally made in Britain! The tour guide Jay took us around the many processes that are involved in producing one of the stunning pieces of porcelain that are manufactured here. Jay took endless trouble to explain these clearly and we were able to touch some of the things - which added an extra dimension. We were also privileged to be able to see one of the resident procelain artists at work.

You need to book the tour - however you can visit museum and shop without booking. The shop provides a range of items from perfect but expensive pieces through to low cost seconds. We had a nice sandwich in the restaurant

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and thought it was great value. My friend and I have lived in the area for 30 years and decided it was time to visit some of the tourist attractions near to home. It was fascinating and great value for £5. I don't understand why it's not advertised more. The tour explains the process from start to finish. I could have spent hours watching the artists working on the designs. Then we had home made quiche and veg for just £6 and 1.20 for a pot of tea.

The sales assistants were very pleasant.
great place to drool over lovely china!
We had a great bargain - 6 gold edged dinner plates £25! Each second quality plate usually retails for £35.

This was a real factory tour, where we walked through the various work stations, and saw everything close up. We felt it was very good value. The guide was pleasant & knowledgeable & did her best to provide the answers to any questions. The museum was interesting & showed so many Crown Derby items it was hard to take it all in. The icing on the cake was the cup of tea in the restaurant, served in a Royal Crown Deby fine bone china teapot, with cup & saucer to match!
Lots to buy in the shop too. Free parking on site.
