“Perfect base for our Alton Towers weekend...!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2009

I look forward to reading any negative reviews on this hotel, because it will clearly be a joke! This Jurys Inn is simply exceptional. The hotel is very new and as you would expect is very clean and modern, but it goes beyond this with fantastic public areas (bar, restaurant etc), adequately spacious and very comfortable bedrooms complete with air con & LCD TV. The staff were helpful, friendly and efficient, without being intrusive. The breakfast was terrific value and very tasty. I could go on, but I'm sure you're getting the picture! We stayed in Jurys Derby as a base for Alton Towers and it was perfect being close to the airport, within easy reach of the park and offering excellent nightlife including restaurants and bars nearby.

If you require a hotel in the Derby area Jury's will NOT disappoint!

Stayed here for one night only, had missed my flight and had a lovely stay. Staff were very friendly and could not do enough. The hotel is new so everything is fresh and modern, much better than other Jurys. Great decor and location. Rooms are spaceous and clean. Great outdoor area, when the UK gets the good weather this will be a fab place to sit, chill and have a cold drink.
Only downside is lack of parking but that did not bother me.

Fantastic hotel, recently opened, all staff very helpful and willing to offer any assistance. Even had a telephone call on way to stay to apologise that there was no parking on site, but were given full directions and postcode for local carpark, which was secure and not overpriced. Stayed here with my husband and daughter who loved the fact she had a safe in reception where to keep her laptop whilst we were out for the day - Would have like free WIFI but hey you can't have everything. Have already recommended the hotel to many other people as for a base it is ideal for both the Peak District and Alton Towers, both within 1/2 hour drive. Close to good restaurants in the town. However, unlike previous review would not recommend Wetherspoons for breakfast, even though cheaper waited for ever and the food was slopped onto the plate, so stick with the hotel even though it is a little more expensive. Did not eat here in the evening, so cannot comment on food from restaurant other than breakfast. Jury's always provide great service and hotels and Derby is definately another to add to the list of their successful group.

Only open a couple of weeks when we stayed there and at times it showed. No car park on site and not even somewhere to drop off luggage etc yet but assured that this will be rectified soon. Otherwise it is smart, convenient, good value for money and the friendliness and desire to please from the staff more than made up for its teething problems. Will stay again - in fact I'm taking the family in August!

Had a lovely stay in the Jurys Inn derby, also got a room at the bargain price of £20 a night, although wouldnt have been dissapointed with the regular rate of £55. Its brand new, so not really anything bad to say, got checked in early by the lovely staff in reception. I had a room with a doube bed and a single, and my mum had a double room, both big, clean and very modern. The bathroom was lovely and has some nice soap.
Also parked in Chapel Street car par with no problems and got 24 hours of parking for £9, as we arrived at 10.30am on Sunday and left at 6.30pm on Monday.
The water and ice machine is a good touch, as it means not having to drink warm water in the evening. Just took a cup of ice to bed!
There is a weatherspoons about 2-3 minutes walk away called the Stadning Order where we ordered breakfasts from £2.69 for a full english, which was ok, and also had a meal in The Slug and Lettuce, opposite for 50% off on Monday, so didnt need to try the food at the hotel, but will do so next time. Have already booked a 2nd stay. Very impressed.

I stayed here a few weeks after it had opened. I booked a special opening deal for £20 per room at short notice - the day before in fact. I think the regular price is about £55 which is good considering it is a step up or two from a Travelodge. Check in is 2pm but we arrived at 1.20pm soaked and they said it would be fine to check in. Check out is 12pm. Very friendly staff. The hotel definitely feels brand new - the corridors are wide and very quiet, there lifts are quick, and there was even an ice/water machine in the corridor, which was a nice surprise. Our family sized room had a decent bed, smart small couch and pleasant furniture including an LCD TV. Bath and shower excellent. Didn't hear a peep from any other rooms. Air con worked fine.

No razor point in bathroom though.
Location isn't bad at the very top of the main city. Lovely church next door and the cathedral is a minute away. The "Cathedral Quarter" as it's known is what I thought the best part of Derby, very much like Nottingham in fact - quiet, nice buildings and people, plenty of old real ale pubs, cafes, and a nice three minute downhill walk into town. Parking was so-so - the nearby scruffy council Chapel St car park which can be niggly to find on the one way system. I paid £9 from 1pm to midday the next day. I think it's only £1 from 6pm to 8am though, so a great option for quick stays. I noticed a few "£4 per day" outdoor car parks nearby, but I suppose Chapel St is the best option really.

Pub tip: The Dolphin, very close to the hotel.
Restaurant: Anoki in London Road, which is in a scruffier part of town that's quite a trek from the hotel. Paid £30.00 for two mains, one rice, one naan, one wine and one 660ml Cobra. Free papadoms. However, this was on the "2 for 1" deal where you only pay for one main between 10.30pm and midnight. A waiter told me about this on the door, but I still had to ask for it to be removed when the bill came, which it was no problem, so always check and ask. Fantastic food and surroundings, loads of waiters, some of whom are great fun, some are more surly! Derby is a great little city and well worth a visit.
