Gloucestershire is without doubt one of the most beautiful counties at any time of the year. From the North - Stow and Bouton on the Water to the Stroud Valleys, the Forest of Dean and the Severn Vale. All varied. Town wise Tewkesbury is worth a visit, Stow and Bouton is coach party country, the towns in the Forest are run down but the surroundings spectacular. Stroud - hippy paradise but lacking in shops. Cheltenham although superficially lovely is struggling business - wise and has a significant drugs problem. Gloucester has a lovely Cathedral - magnificent. The docks has been turned into a high rise housing estate and failing shopping mall - a real shame and the rest of the town is empty units, pound shops and threatening yobs. So visit Gloucestershire enjoy the fantastic countryside and dont let the urban sprawl spoil your vist.

This is one of the most stunning counties in England! Amazing variety from the twee Cotswold villages to upmarket shopping in Cheltenham, to quirky Stroud, topped off with Gloicester Cathedral. The only place I would skip is probably Gloucester City itself, cathedral aside, & the efforts made to develop the docks/quays, the city has suffered from post-war development with a pretty ugly centre which makes little connection to the historic background of the cathedral and the older streets, such a shame. Some of the best scenery can be viewed from Leckhampton Hill, the Cotswold Way, the A48 out to Chepstow, the road to Stroud through Edge. I could go on!

Visited two National Trust Roman Villas that were worth the drive and very interesting to see the mosaics and lay out of ancient site. The country side was stunning and people generally delightful and very helpful. Cheltenham was a nightmare to drive around as poorly signposted and could not find entrance to ancient site. Bought some great pickles Chutneys and Jams & would visit again when weather is improved
