“Children and teens loved it”

Gloucester Ski & Snowboard Centre
Reviewed September 17, 2013

Went here for a Friends 18TH .. Tubbing was the sport of the evening .. The teens and children loved it. I thought it was really tame . It's half an hour each go. It's very tiring. So half an hour is enough. This slope could do with being higher and longer . It could be so much better. I found the surrounding area on the slopes needing a good clean . Everything looks so old and tatty. It was pouring with rain the evening we all went so the spectators got soaking wet :( as there is no where to sit and watch undercover. Overall a great half an hour . Don't know if I would bother going back as not exciting enough. Staff very friendly.

My son has regular ski lessons here. We've had some dreadful food and dreadful service in the recent past. Now the new management has taken over it has improved a lot. However on Sunday last I was reading the paper sat near the big tv which is about 15' from wc's and noticed that you can still smell them, yuk! As it was busy there and no other comfy seats available we decided not to eat there as I cant stand the smell of wee when Im eating! Can you? But, as a ski centre it has excellent facilities, the slopes seem to have been refurbished in parts, the ski instructors are all great people and patient with the kids, last year my son had his birthday party there and next week back for his next birthday "tubing party" which is a blast and the kids love it. The service at the bar for drinks has greatly improved, there seems to be some new keener staff employed there and on reception they are more welcoming that before. There is also a new ski equipment shop which is well worth a browse. We are regulars here so can keep you informed of any new developments

With two teenage boys to entertain over Easter I was desperate to find something really good as a treat. Every time you go down the M5 you can't help but notice the ski slopes on the hill just outside Gloucester but we had never been adventurous enough to try.

I went online to find the details and gave them a ring to enquire about whether the boys previous snowboarding experience was enough for them just to start or whether they would need lessons. The staff were extremely helpful and that afternoon we headed to Gloucester.

The centre has two large slopes and a couple of smaller areas for beginners lessons. There are three ski lifts to get you quickly back to the top. There are also ramps and airbag evenings for the more adventurous. There is a very well stocked shop and nice ski lodge style cafe but all equipment could also be hired. In fact, all equipment was provided in the price we paid. Two hours boarding, boards, boots and helmet hire cost us £12 each. Please check the website because prices vary according to time of year and time of day. We were obviously off peak. The process could not be simpler. You book in, fill out a form that checks you are safe to go on the slopes, grab the equipment and then pay when you finish for the number of hours you have been there.

The boys took 15 minutes to get used to the surface and then they were off up the hill. They rated the afternoon as a definite 5 stars. The surface is a little unforgiving and falls hurt like falling on ice so wear gloves and thick clothing. There was a whole list of cheap group lessons and more expensive individual tuition and there were quite a few beginners having lessons whilst we were there. We will definitely be going back soon. Two hours skiing or snowboarding for the price of a trip to the cinema, fantastic fun!
