Description: This traditional restaurant and pub located in Maisemore, Gloucester just over the bridge and on the A48 offers variety of traditional Nepalese meals which are made using fresh local products. The restaurant was taken over by an Ex-Ghurkha just over a year ago and it has gone from strength to strength as it caters to the need of all it’s customers. The White Hart Inn also serves English pub food during lunch time and as well as serving traditional Sunday roast and on the evening they serve freshly made Nepalese dishes most of which are gluten free and can be made to suit your taste buds.

Visited this restaurant on a Tuesday evening as part of a party of eight, having booked a couple of weeks beforehand. It's a black and white building situated on the right-hand side virtually as soon as you enter Maisemore.

On arrival, my husband and I were warmly greeted by both members of staff behind the bar, asked if we wanted drinks immediately or wanted to wait until the arrival of our friends and then shown to our table. We were surprised that there were already several tables occupied with it being so early in the week but that was obviously an omen for things to come.

We were immediately given complimentary poppadoms to start with whilst waiting for our starters, along with three of the usual accompaniments.

For starters there was a very good selection of choices. The majority of us went for Aludum, a potato dish which is popular within the Gurkha Regiment, which was very nice, well presented and made a change from our usual starters because we normally opt for a meat dish.

It would be too onerous to name all that we had for our mains but, yet again, because we wanted to try Nepalese cuisine most of us opted for the Raja Rani Chicken. You are asked if you want it hot or medium, etc. This is marinated chicken tikka which is cooked with garlic, ginger genugreek leaf and a touch of chilli, yoghurt and lots of fresh coriander. It is described on the menu as a 'Very Tasty Dish'. Very Tasty Dish! That is an understatement. All that had chosen it described it as one of the most flavoursome meals they had ever eaten, it was absolutely divine and we all would thoroughly recommend it. Other members of the party chose Nepali Chicken and Sowadilo curry with the flavours yet again being fantastic. All dishes were nicely presented and looked so appetising.

None of us opted for sweets or coffee as we were rather full but, to sum up this restaurant, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and cosy even; the food is top notch (there aren't enough adjectives to describe it) and the service from the moment we arrived, during the meal and on leaving was fantastic too - it was swift but not obtrusive. Would highly recommend this restaurant as a change from dining out in Gloucester, especially as it's not too far to travel. Will we be going again? You bet we will!

Mixed grill starter to share followed by a Ghurka special and garlic nan! All fantastic. Clean welcoming, great team. I would have liked more nepalese choices as that is what drew us to the restaurant. try it! he house red was most excellent too!

This was recommended by a work mate who heard about the Napalese/Indian restaurant at this well known pub in Maismore. Decided to give it a try and so glad we did. It's a great place with fantastic well cooked food. The staff are friendly and pub has really been improved. Well done, we will definately be back! :-)
