“Nice buffet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

Our relations who live in Gloucester took us to the Vinings. It is located in the Historic Dockyard and has been added on to a regenerated warehouse. In the light of day it looks a bit peculiar as it is a rusty steel box shape but we did not notice it at night. There was a very friendly welcome and then you could help yourself to the buffet which had both indian and chinese dishes. There was plenty of choice and the food was fairly typical though not outstanding. The service was very good throughout

“Fabulous dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

Have dined at The Vinnings on two occasions. Restaurant is positioned on the edge of the docks overlooking the water. The building, from the outside, looks like the hull of a boat. The interior is very modern, clean and pleasing to the eye. The buffet bar sits in the middle of the room surrounded by tables and chairs, The staff are attentive without being intrusive and are very friendly. The food is lovely. Tastes fresh and very flavoursome. There is a starter, main and dessert bar, all beautifully laid out and covered to keep it hot. The only down side is the lack of choice for desserts. There are always three types of icecream plus cheesecake or gateau. I would like to see something lighter like mousse or fruit salad. Overall a very pleasant dining experience and good value for money.

“Saving grace on Gloucester Docks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

We walked past the rusty shed with Vinings w written on the side of it. Fortunately the other food out let's in the Docks were heaving so back we went with a certain air of desperation. What a surprise! On walking in we saw a large central table which formed a buffet. Quickly seated at a table with a view mine host explained that it was all quite simple you just helped yourself till you'd had enough.

There were salads and sauces a whole range of Thai and Indian appetisers, prawn toasts, onion bhaji's chicken tikka bites etc plus noodles and different sorts of rice , chips and nan bread. On our table were prawn crackers and poppadoms. It was difficult to be restrained!
Mains included Indian and Thai curries plus crispy chicken and beef as well as vegetable dishes. desserts consisted of a choice of ice creams and sauces, gateau and fruit salad. Wine was reasonably priced from £13:95 per bottle and 2 courses on Saturday lunchtime were £9:95 per head. Wowsers! You really can't go wrong.

“Good Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

Pity about what they have done to the Docks though in the redevelopment - it is now a bit of a concrete jungle and not half so much to enjoy as before - used to enjoy the old Antiques Centre and the Merchants Quay shopping Centre - the heart has been ripped out of the place and the new shopping Centre needs some good everyday shops in it

“Good Choice Buffet Restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

Three of us visited on a Saturday evening without having made a prior booking and, seeing they were really busy, were worried that we wouldn't be accommodated but they did find us a table, albeit it was a bit pushed for space. Although from the outside the restaurant doesn't look anything special, appearances are deceptive and once inside it's nice to be able to look out over the water of the docks with the lights which makes for a nice atmosphere. The reason our party chose this restaurant is the fact it suits us all - two of the party only like Indian food whereas I like Indian and Thai, but with a preference for Thai. We were made to feel really welcome and the staff were attentive but not 'in your face'. We had a good amount of crackers and poppadoms placed in front of us to start with and got ourselves just the sweet chilli sauce and mango chutney for those. There was a good selection of the usual starters, with myself opting to have both the Thai and Indian and a great selection of Thai dishes for the main with an absolutely fantastic Thai red curry which I would certainly recommend. All the Thai food was really flavoursome with just the right amount of 'kick'. In fact the three of us were only sorry that we hadn't starved ourselves earlier which meant we could have ate more! Obviously, although it's a buffet restaurant and you can go up as many times as you like for more food, you didn't feel you were being watched for the amount of food you were eating. It was nice that after you'd had some dishes you were asked if you wanted a clean plate before you went up again, so none of the previous dishes/flavours remained on your plate. None of our party particularly likes Indian or Thai puddings so were happy to find just some gateau and three or so varieties of ice-cream. We all chose the vanilla and cherry ripple ice-cream which was an extremely good quality and really flavoursome. By the time we left there were about ten people waiting to be seated which must be some sort of recommendation. A nice amount of reasonable parking nearby helps.
