“African experience in heart of Gloucester”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

A warm hospitable welcome from the owner/chef/waiter..food and specific taste order taken at point of booking days earlier, however, the surprise is not ruined by this. We ordered a banquet and that is exactly what we received, however, it was designed to our individual taste and each dish held its own spice level that was made individually and specifically for me!..Charlie came out to check and offered extra dishes to manage the spice level..delicious! Difficult to put into word, this is simply a traditional african expereince, the food, the atmosphere and environment is superb, and I am not sure how they do it, but they do..all I can suggest is try it and then find the words to describe it other than GO there!

“Great for groups”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

I've just had lunch as part of a big group out for an hour from work. We had the place to ourselves (we filled it) and had almost a taster menu, with a selection of dishes for us all to sample and enjoy. These included fish, goat, ribs, chicken, chipped potatoes, fresh tomato salad squash curry and a selection of lentils and mung bean. We drank fresh juice and enjoyed friendly and helpful service. Every dish is explained at the atmosphere is informal and welcoming. Would happily take anyone there. Really enjoyed it. Great for eating with friends and business clients. At just over £10 per head (including drink) this was excellent value, I was stuffed.

“First experience, most definately not the last !”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

We were taken here by a couple of good friends who had been a few times. The restaurant is only small but that's part of the attraction. We had the African banquet which meant trying lots of different tastes.First off is the bbq brisket of beef with plantain, next up is the whole chicken with sliced potatoes coated with Garam flour and fried both come with chopped fresh tomatoes, onions and coriander. Then for the curries,we had smoked chicken with a peanut sauce, chicken with 15 spices, goat and beef curry with a bowl of rice. Charlie also brought out an Ethiopian fermented wrap which was weird to look at but wrapped around some of your curry was awesome. All in all,the food was absolutely outstanding,Charlie takes time to explain what exactly he has brought out for you to eat and how its cooked.Left totally stuffed.

“Best food for miles.”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

First visited earlier this year while on holiday from Scotland. It was a last minute booking but Charlie went out of his way to fit us in. The food was fantastic, we had the banquet and would recommend it if you like to try different dishes. We were in Gloucester last week for a flying visit, but made sure we booked in advance. Delighted again with the welcome and food. I don't know how they produce such high quality at the very low prices they charge. I would be happy to pay much more!
Will be back the next time we visit, just wish we were closer.
