“Excellent Value, great staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2011

The hotel is under refurbishment and some work still going on, but this stopped on Friday afternoon and caused us no problem. The staff are well trained, friendly, helpful, spot on. The room was large and tastefully decorated, The swimming area is in need of an update but OK. We had the two night stay deal, excellent value, ate in the restaurant, couldnt fault the food. They were a little short on the wine we wanted but not a problem. Located next to golf couse, which we had a walk round, country park and ski centre. Taxi into town was £8, the waterfront was a dissapointment, the catherdral area somewhat better.

Just returned from a weekend at the Hallmark celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary, great (refurbished) room, lovely breakfast, staff very helpful,Leisure club enjoyable & overall a great base for the cotswolds but i wouldnt recommend Gloucester Town Centre,Its a dump! Wifi was rubbish, only worked if you stood in the bathrrom & held the phone above your head ! Only criticism was the building work which I had been assured before booking would be completed but wasnt. Reception is only accessible through a fire escape door down a steep gravel flower bed & then negotiating some tewmporary steps made from scaffolding, bit awkward to bring cases in & out & my wife nearly went flying a couple of times in her heels.Alos every time we went to reception, we found it woefully understaffed which meant waiting for 10 mins every time

Dear Guest,

Congratulations on your anniversairy, and thank you for choosing to spend that time with us. I was happy to read of the areas you clearly enjoyed, and thank you for your kind words in those areas. I was sorry to read about the issues you had - I do recall we had a Wi-Fi problem one day last week, and assume that you were affected at this time, so my apologies on this. I would also like to apologise for any disruption caused by the building work, which I am glad to say is very close to completion now - we were expecting the atrium and entrance to be done for last week, but it will now be the end of this week, and that brings the major works to an end. I will pass on your comments to the team, and hope we can improve the areas mentioned. Should you return to us, we have some great information on the local highlgihts at the desk; Gloucester Quays, Rococo gardens and Painswick abbey to name a few. Once again, thank you for your comments, and glad you enjoyed your stay.

Regards,

James Plant

If they had been upfront about the builders, I would have felt better the rooms are very VERY stuffy, we stayed in a family room 128 don't bother didnt sleep. Having sate that the staff are nice and did their best most of the time tho it did take them an hour to make my daughter a ham sandwich. Food was ok value on the half price deal. this will be a nice hotel when it is finished. Hall Mark hotels shoul declare the builders were there at the time of booking

Deaqr Lynnebo53,

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to feedback and write the review - my apologies that you experienced the disruption of the builders to such an extent - I have revisited timings with the contractors to ensure there is no noise before 9am, and I am sorry if this was not the case for you. We are now entering the final stage of the work, with all of the front entrance complete this week, which has been one of the busier parts ofthe build, so I am happy to say this is now essentially complete. We have always tried to be open with websites when we have known the timings for projects, hence our website stating ' The refurbishment... is gathering pace', and where we are up to in the work. As of next week, we will have all of our double rooms done, with family, twin and suites also available, and the leisure centre, conference room, restaurant and bar all completed, with just the final corridor being decorated at the back of the hotel, and the function room and garden now also being finished off, so exceptionallly close to a completed refurb. I was sorry to read your film disrputed - this was a local atmospheric issue, affecting the area that night, but resolved shortly afterwards. My apologies again on any disruption, but hope we are able to welcome you back to the finished productsoon.

Best wishes,

James Plant

Have just returned from 3 nights at the Hallmark Hotel and cannot fault it. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the recent refurb. ensured a great break in a nice setting near to the city centre. Evening meal is superb in a pleasant romantic restaurant. We will return!
Julie and Bruce, Plymouth

Room Tip: refurb. is in final stages.

We stayed just the one night, and booked online. The website said nothing about any refurbishments, so we were a little surprised to find ourselves in the middle of a building yard. Reception is accessed via a perilous route, harsh if you're wearing heels, but the reception staff were very efficient and friendly.
We had a beautiful room, but no air con, so had to have the windows open as it was very stuffy inside. Entertainment was provided by the builders just below our room, but, luckily for us they finished at 5 pm.
Happily watching TV till the early hours, we were quite content, until the TV went off, right in the middle of our film ! Bad though it was, I shall never find out how it finished now. Unluckily, all stations were unavailable, necessitating an early night,
This proved a godsend though, as we were woken at 8.00 am by a builder singing More More More, by Andrea True Connection nicely in tune as well. I repeat 8.00 am, not 9.00 as promised in one of your managers replies earlier. Then all hell seemed to be let loose, as the builders were directly below us, oh, and the Do Not Disturb sign on the door doesn't work, as at 9.00 one of the housemaids walked into the room, probably to see how the builders were getting along !!!!!!!!
Loved what it may be, but oh, so unhappy with no communication regarding builders.

Stayed here 17 June 2011 - The hotel is in the process of being refurbished and we were disappointed not to get a refurbished room - as there were 3 of us we had a family room which had not yet been done! Saw one of the completed rooms and they are lovely. The staff were really good, very helpful and friendly. Food was great, we had a beautiful afternoon tea and a great evening meal on the Saturday. Breakfast was buffet style and had a good choice. The hotel is only about 2 miles from Gloucester station and there is a main bus route about 10 mins walk away. Easy to get to Gloucester and Cheltenham. Would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback - happy to say that we are only a week or so from getting family, twin and suites back refurbished, and naturally, I too am sorry we couldn't get you into a refurbished room this time, because, as you say - they are lovely !

It was nive to read about your food experiences - afternoon teas prove increasingly popular, and I was glad to see breakfast and dinner hit the mark as well... our brasserie menu has a great range on, and there is always a good selection to order from. Thanks again for your feedback - I always share these points with the team, and they will share my thanks for your kind words.

Hope we get to see you again soon,

Best wishes,

apart from being difficult to find, poor sign posting, slow service,no reception on tv,leaking ceiling over the stairs, the noise of the smokers outside the bedroom window till3am,raw lamb when medium to rare was asked for.....
...we had a very pleasant stay..a free bottle of wine in lieu of the lamb, the staff are pleasant and friendly despite all the teething problems in the midst of the refurbishment.....
...and a very good deal via travelzoo...

Hello there,

I believe we spoke during your stay, and thank you again for your feedback. Sorry to read that you struggled with signage - we are discussing with the AA about getting better road signage on the way in. Unfortunately, as we discussed at the weekend, the refurb work hd a couple of unexpected impacts that weekend, namely the leak that took out the freeview channels for the evening. That said, I was glad to read of your positive coments, and pleased to know you would stay again - look forward to welcoming you back, and you can enjoy the finished article - very close now!
