“Excellent birthday weekend”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

A big thank you to all the staff there. My girlfriend took me away for the weekend for my birthday just after Xmas. When we got there, we were surprised at how quaint it looked from the outside, and it matched it internally. We decided to stay in their restaurant on the Friday night instead of going into Harrogate. What a great decision !! The food was superb. The atmosphere in the resaturant was lovely, and the service was second to none. We enjoyed it so much, we decided to book straight away to eat there the second night as well - and that was just as good. They had even gone into Harrogate and got a Birthday cake for me, as we had mentioned it at some point the night before - you don't get service like that at other places. All in all, a perfect birthday break. Thanks to all the staff who made us feel very welcome and special. We will be back !!

We stayed here for 1 night before a shoot in the region. Rooms were clean, bathroom very dated, but it was all we needed as a group of lads. Breakfast was very slow and made us late for our shoot, also not everyone got what they ordered. Beer and meal night before were also good, although they ran out of steaks. Good value would stay again if they sorted out breakfast.

I was recommended this Yorkshire Dales pub as being very good for the food it served. We booked a table in advance and the staff were very helpful when we rang back to increase the booking from 5 people to 7 people. When we arrived (early) our table was not ready. We were directed through to the snug where there was a pool table and rugby on the TV. Probably not what I was expecting, but after all this is a dales pub for the locals.
When we were shown through to the restaurant we were guided to a nice table. Although they had run out of the lamb Sunday roast, they offered to do Lamb Henry as a Sunday dinner - this was a nice touch and three of the party were tempted by this alternative.
I think the waiting on staff were changed or reduced shortly after our order had been taken. Suddenly we were left alone and we had to wait a very long time before the food arrived. This is not necessarily a problem because does indicate that the food was freshly cooked. However, when it did arrive there was one meal missing and I had to remind the waiting staff after over 5 minutes that we were still waiting for one dish to arrive from the kitchens.
The food, especially the meat, was lovely. However, I had to find the waitress as she had forgotten to serve vegetables to the table. At no time were we asked if we wanted more drinks.
At the end of the main course we waited probably 20 minutes for our plates to be taken away and in the end I had to find the waitress to ask her to clear the table. The lack of service convinced us not to order deserts.
I was also disappointed that the manager did not ask if we had enjoyed our meal when I paid. I think the staff late on Sunday afternoon were mainly junior staff who had not had any training in serving on and customer service. A shame because the food is really nice.

We stayed one night at The Wellington Inn, which is conveniently situated being only a few miles from Harrogate. Our room at the back of the Inn had super views over the countryside, the room was spacious. The bathroom decor was a little tired, but again plenty of room and hot water. We had a good nights sleep with very comfortable beds, and then followed by an excellent breakfast. All the staff were very friendly, cheerful and helpful. The only problem we found was the Wi-Fi in the room would not work in the evening, it did work in the morning. We would stay here again if in the area, and would recommend it. See separate review of our meal at The Wellington Inn.

Room Tip: Our room at the back had lovely views, but as the Inn is in the open country it is quite possible th...

We were a party of 4 having 3 roast beef lunches and 1 roast lamb lunch. All were excellent and delicious yorkshire puddings. We did have quite a wait for the food and may be they should tell customers at the time of taking the order of the approximate wait. Puddings were excellent. We have visited The Wellington over a number of years and have never had a bad meal and would return again.
