“Luxurious place to stay in a very convenient location.”
Reviewed October 30, 2012 via mobile

We went to the Bijou for a weekend and had a fabulous time. The attention to detail made the whole stay very relaxing with a feeling of luxury. Breakfast was the best I've ever had at a B and B. Used it as a base to go to Betty's and the Turkish Baths.

The Bijou is certainly, as the name implies, small and elegant. It is in a great location with a pleasant garden out front and a short walk down-hill into the town.

Everything is thoughtfully and stylishly presented in the Bijou. It has the personal touch of a B & B but with the level of quality you would expect of a bigger establishment. The lounge is comfortable and well furnished and has access to a laptop. It seems a shame that such a classy room with interesting nik-naks and trinkets gets such little use, as we didn't see anybody take advantage of it...although it does seem somewhat surplus to requirements.

We were allocated a room on the first floor which had a WC right outside the door. On entering the room, we were both hit by the smell of, how shall we say, toilet matter. The windows were open and there was nothing offensive lingering in the bathroom and yet the smell didn't dissipate.

The room itself was perfectly clean, housing a kingsize bed which was disappointingly uncomfortable. The tasteful scatter cushions, once off the bed, took up alot of floor space in this room which really only allows a narrow walk-way around the bed. The TV and drinks making facilities are within the sliding door wardrobe, along with a selection of quality magazines to read. The toffees and Jellytots set out with the tea, coffee and biscuits were a sweet and welcome treat! The bathroom was well appointed but just impractically small and the water pressure of the shower was irritatingly poor.

The dining room was clean and airy. The self-serve choices were adeqaute and sufficient and in addition to a cooked breakfast. Freshly cooked, quickly served and a substantial way to start the day.

Personal touches such as the week-long weather forecast printout displayed at the foot of the stairs and the bowl of mini-LoveHearts sweets in reception are welcome additions.

Everything in the Bijou seemed to have been thought about at length and lovingly put in place by proprietors who clearly have the highest standards of presentation. However, the dimensions of the rooms are simply not enough to accommodate or accomplish their vision.

We were given a down stairs room in a converted house at the back of the main hotel. The room was that small that we both bruised our legs on the metal bed frame, ouch. The room was very stylish. The shower was very small to any women over a size 14 would find it a squeeze. The shower heads weren't very good either The shower head above dripped cold water onto me whilst the adjustable head shower didn't adjust.

Room Tip: The hotel is on a busy main road, a room at the back probably would be more quite.

I would just like to mention that this reviewer paid £59.00 per night for a small double including breakfast. The showers are single size in the small doubles. The shower problem has now been addressed and a part has been ordered to fix it - apologies for this.

The hotel was fantastic right from the moment we booked to the time we left. I say this as I added information in the additional comments box and for once the hotelier had read this!! I requested if a double room came available to please let me know. A few days after booking I had an email advising just that. So we upgraded our booking and were not disappointed!! We stayed in the coach house and the room was lovely. It had a boutique feel and all the additional extras just made the stay that little bit special. The only criticism I have which I would think is resolved quite easily by the management. The digital tv had poor signal as it kept being scrambled. Other than this the stay was faultless!! Breakfast was delicious and service was fantastic!! I had a full English both mornings and my wife tried the Italian breakfast and she thought it was very nice!! We never used the honesty bar, but it had plenty of choice including spirits, beers and wine!! I also think it was quite a novel idea. With the hotels locality to the centre of Harrogate and its value for money we were very impressed and will definitely be back. Thank you to the Bijou!!

Our family of three stayed here last year (and the year before!) and had a great time. It is in a good location being only a short walk into town. The rooms are most comfortable and spacious with lovely white linen and tv's in each. Breakfast delicious with a buffet of stewed fruit, croissants and cereal as well as wonderful cooked breakfast and lovely coffee. Each room has coffee and tea making with biscuits. The people who run it are delightful and helped in every way with guidance of places to go and where to eat in town. Especially love Betty's Tea House in Harrogate - for a special Yorkshire high tea - to be remembered! A trip to Bijou would be a great weekend away! We will be back!

Room Tip: Top has lovely double with large bathroom

We have stayed at the Bijou many times in recent years and have always found it to be of the highest standard. The rooms are stylish and there is the warmest of welcomes from the owners and staff. We particularly enjoy staying in the Coach House, which is separate from the main hotel and has its own character and charm. It works very well for family stays with its two rooms, one upstairs and one at ground level. No need to worry about the children being a bit noisy! The Bijou is a short walk from the centre and just a stroll from Betty's Tea Room (a must for any visitor to Harrogate). Final mention must go to the excellent breakfast at the Bijou, with a typically tasteful menu and high quality ingredients.
