“Nice hotel when it is renovated!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2011

Stayed at this hotel for one night - pleasant welcome and bar staff helpful but had to ask reception to call the waiter every time we needed to order a drink as we were the only two using the bar. Good breakfast and plenty of it. However, downside was no hot water and no pressure which meant water trickled out of taps and toilet did not flush properly. Most annoying part was trying to sleep with the smell of paint which filled the room and being greeted by workmen and stepping over paint pots in the morning to get to the lift! The walls were paper thin and could have joined in conversation with guests next door. At the least, we should have been warned prior to booking. £60 for b & b plus headache in the morning from the paint smell was not our idea of fun! Have no doubt the hotel will be great when the renovations finish.

Room Tip: Very convenient to shops, restaurants, train station

Central location, smiling person to welcome us but not sure anyone is in charge, and we wont be back.

Both hot water boilers were switched off during the night we stayed
= no hot water all morning, no showers or baths and no shave for me.
Then we were told to wait 40 minutes, and then an hour and thereb was still no hot water despite wasting our time.
Their management then took over a week to reply to repeat emails and has never really explained why despite our several emails. We were forced to go to the well run Turkish Baths for some real hot water,
I could mention other things, but we did pay for first for a bed first, and second for hot. If you plan to stay, ask first if their boilers are working, or try somewhethere else.

We really enjoyed our stay in Harrogate the weather was lovely and the hotel was too. Our bedroom was perfect, quite modern and very clean. We had free and easy parking which was a relief as car parking was at a premium. Nice reception staff welcomed us.

It's well situated, within walking distance of the shops, pubs and restaurants.

The breakfast was fantastic, my partner and I both agreed it's the best we've had.

I agree the hotel could do with a make-over, but we were more than happy and felt we'd had tremendous value for our money.

On arrival, the position of the room on the corner with double aspect windows was great and as promised by the friendly receptionist who took the booking.

But oh dear, what a disappointment, the room had a curtain hanging down, the hose for the wall mounted hair dryer had come adrift from the hand piece, so the hot air heated your wrist not your hair. After a 170 mile journey this was not a good start. We requested another move and were shown into another room but here the TV did not receive a signal and the fan in the bathroom did not work, and we were surprised to find that they did not supply shampoo sets or shower hat, just a squeezy tube of Dove over the bath and basin.
A senior member of staff who attended us instead of a maintenence person was helpful and got the tv working and fitted a new fuse. The tv was, I guess, terrestrial as we got interference and pixelation from time to time.
The beds were comfortable and the breakfast acceptable with great hot food from the kitchen. The bar area/lounge had leather furniture which was very worn and marked with a bar with screw holes visible where perhaps brass rails had been. Refurb needed soon?
After the initial experience we got used to the place and really appreciated being so close to the centre of things in Harrogate.
We would particularly recommend Graveleys Seafood Restaurant (01423 507093 HG1 1DB) and the Old Bell Tavern (01423 507930 HG1 2SZ)

Excellent location until the clubs emptied. Very noisy through until 6am - youngsters - pa!!
Very friendly. Breakfasts excellent if a little overcooked. Room small but comfy. No hesitation in staying again. Not everyone's cup of tea so I wouldn't reccommend it but it suits us.

Expected good quality hotel. Parking very good, reception woman very pleasant. We where given our room on the top floor where we found the carpet was stained and tread bare the furniture was also very shabby. Bed linen had a stain; bath room fan was coated in dust sufficient to write "VERY DUSTY" in, brown stain around plughole. Felt like we where in staff accommodation. The VERY DUSTY message had been cleaned by our return the second day hopefully the other rooms where checked. Breakfast staff gave the impression we where an inconvenience whilst the breakfast its self was very good (except for the watery orange juice) very few other quest does this tell you something?
Good location for the attractions
