Just back from a one night stay at the hotel. The accommodation was booked through an agent who had apparently been told that the budget rooms (a snip at £155!!!!!!) could be a little noisy.
Imagine our surprise when firstly you have to access the rooms by leaving the hotel and going down some external steps to the old staff quarters. Our room was immediately below the bistro, so our Sunday lie in was disturbed at 7.30 by the waiting staff bounding up and down the rstaurant above. This continued throughout the next 3 hours until we decided to have breakfast as well
As we checked out we mentioned the noise to the reception manager who (in an un-necessarily harsh and abrupt manner) told us we should have been told that it could be noisy.
Not great for what is usually a good chain

This is a very pleasant hotel, of the usual good standard from the Hotel du Vin group. I stayed with my mum and we had a comfortable twin room at the back of the hotel. It was nice and quiet, which was a good job as the room was very warm so we had to sleep with the window open. We found the staff very pleasant and helpful. The only down side was the evening meal in the Bistro was not as good as I've come to expect from a Hotel du Vin. I started with the mussels which were a tiny bit gritty, and then had the calves liver which was underdone and I had to leave about half (BTW, I do like my meat rare, but this was raw in the middle). The breakfast however was excellent, and overall I would be happy recommending this hotel.

We are regular users of the Hotel du Vin chain, but usually stay at the York Hotel when travelling to North Yorkshire. We decided to give the harrogate venue a visit due to availability, and we arrived expecting it to be not as good as other hotels in the chain based on the reviews on this site. We were very pleasantly surprised, very nice room, attic suite was huge, comfortable and quiet. the service was great from the staff on reception and in the Bar, and the Hotel had a great atmosphere. It is very popular with locals, they obviously vote with their feet. we had one meal in the restaurant, and it was on a par with others in the chain, and the breakfasts were of a high standard. So either this hotel has upped it's game, or the previous reviewers had different experiences to us.

Room Tip: Our room was the top floor suite, if you can it's worth the stretch

Stayed for 2 days last week. Great location and great marketing, not backed up by the hotel itself. Check in desk is poorly located and the decor and paint around the area is flaking off. The door to the room behind was jammed open showing a (typically pehaps) cluttered office. Not a good first impression. Rest of the ground floor is pretty nice if in need of some minor work. Staff were either very friendly and helpful or brusque verging on rude.
Anyhow, room was OK if a little small (2nd floor). Carpet was going threadbare, bathroom window was filthy and rattled the whole of the first night in high wind. Shower dripped for 30 minutes after turned off. Not great. Not great at all.
Didn't eat there apart from breakfast which was OK but day 1 - baked beans were available (chef was asked?!). Day 2 - no baked beans. I almost thought the pretentious staff were going to say they were now out of season! Just wanted some baked beans with my small £15 breakfast. Poor.
So, the building is nice but tired and in need of attention. Staff were varied and when they were good, they were good however - when they were bad they were bad.... HDV need to spend some time & money at this hotel as it it will damage the wider brand if left in this condition too much longer.

Stayed in basement room, first impressions were good, nice modern decor. Door opened onto street and didn't feel safe. Was woken at 6.30am as room was directly below restaurant, very noisy. Main hotel was modern and clean with friendly staff so experience may have been better in different room. Basement rooms are not what is expected in hotel with this price tag, very disappointed and would not return.

Nice hotel but just felt it was lacking something for the price. Bar/reception area was lovely with good range of drinks but our room was small, dark & in need of some maintenance. Wardrobe light shut off didn't work properly either which was really irritating as, having a touch of OCD, I was constantly checking it before leaving the room as the lights got hot & I didn't want my clothes going up in smoke. Room was also very noisy & I was woke early every morning by the dust cart - secondary glazing? Location is excellent, really central & all staff were good especially lady who checked us in.

Room Tip: Ask for a central room so you are not so near the roads either side.

We stayed here for a night for a wedding celebration.
Our room was Bodega Louis Bosca.
It was a dusty tired little room overlooking a bar at the side of the hotel. It had no privacy as there was no blind or net curtain so we had to keep the curtain drawn which made the room even darker.
There was no hot water for a bath the next morning.
They provided a buffet breakfast which unfortunately was not replenished often enough and had gone cold.It was the worst scrambled egg I had ever tasted!
The other guests were mostly satisfied with their rooms and baths so maybe we were just unlucky.
The normal price for this room I think is £175 a night. If I had paid that much I would have been extremely disappointed.

Room Tip: Stay away from Bodega Luis Bosca room.
