“A pleasant hotel in an excellent location.”
Reviewed December 16, 2009

A beautiful victorian building, with impressive entrance and reception area. The rooms were very clean and comfortable although the bathroom could have benefited from a little updating/maintenance and better lighting, it was adequate. Staff were attentive and helpful and thre is a great bar/brasserie, especially handy for later arrivals, although the hotel is very well located in central Harrogate, lots of restaureant and bars within a few minutes walk. Breakfast was very good, fresh tasty food and good service. Would definitely stay here again, good value quality 3* hotel. Loved Harroagte itself a lovely place for a weekend shopping break.

Stayed in the Yorkshire Hotel for one night - booked a double room with cot. On arrival friendly welcome, although the cot wasn't in the room when we arrived, when I phoned reception the cot arrived in under 10 minutes but 2 very friendly members of staff.

Room was spacious and bathroom was huge. Very comfortable and excellent value for money. The location of the hotel is perfect - almost across the road from Betty's with loads of bars and restaurants round the corner. Hotel bar is really nice and very modern. Hotel has good free parking in a perfect location near the shops!

Overall I would definately recommend this hotel and definately use it again.

We stayed recently as part of a group of car enthusiasts on a weekend in Yorkshire. The over riding impression was that the staff were excellent. Without exception they were all pleasant and happy to help. They reserved our car parking spaces, about 16 cars and we all got our allocation no problem the whole time there.

Drink prices were as in all hotels a little on the expensive side but no more or less than anywhere else. Food was off a set menu included in our stay and it was fabulous. Veg was cooked perfectly and as much as you wanted. Breakfast could do with being warmer and the supply a little more forthcoming but quality was very good.

Room was spacious and on 4th floor facing the square., The location is superb but the down side of that is that it is busy on the street outside. As one other reviewer points out noise on the street can be excessive and interupt sleep. For the management I would likethe point out that the sash window anti opening device of a plastic DIY 'chocolate block' screwed into the frame came away on the first opening of the window and I could of climbed out no problem, room 415.

The bathrooms were clean but there was a small leak which ran out water from under the bath when showering. The main problem was that all the furnishings were very tired and worn and so desperately needed replacing. Everything good about the hotel was negated by the substandard furnishings. We are considering a return trip and do hope that it is on the cards to replace some of these items and the staff are let down by this....

I stayed at the Yorkshire recently for a family weekend trip with my mum, nan and sister.

First of all, the good. The hotel is perfectly located, in the heart of Harrogate accross the roads to the lovely Betty's Tea Rooms and centrally located for the shops and train station. The building itself is very nice.

Now, for the bad, which far outweighs the good in my opinion. The overriding factor here is the price. We got our stay for half price thanks to an offer that they initially weren't going to honour because they'd already sold a lot of rooms for the dates we wanted. Sorry, but if you're going to advertise dates that your offer applies to, you should honour it, regardless of availabilty. Thankfully we persuaded them to do so, but all in all, I don't think our stay was even worthy of the half price we paid, let alone full price, which would have been horribly excessive.

The lifts were aboslutely tiny. The prices in the hotel's bar were extortionate and the reception and lobby area severely lacked any semblance of atmosphere. The decor of the bathrooms, as a previous reviewer has mentioned, is utterly uninspired and cheap.

The beds, though, took the biscuit. I've stayed in a lot of hotels and motels ranging from the very nice to the bottom end of the scale and my bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. Springs to be felt all the way through and my companions all said theirs were the same. Also the pillows supplied were the sort that are too thin to use just one, but too thick to use two.

The last thing, to the hotel managers, if you're reading this: you should double glaze your windows in the rooms backing onto the street where the pubs/bars are. We could hear everything and were woken up a few times by drunk people shouting right outside our room.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel if it was cheap, let alone at the high prices they usually charge.
