“Worth a short visit”
Review of Ripon Cathedral

Ripon Cathedral

We were jet-lagged when we visited, but this cathedral is worth a visit. It's very welcoming, with informative guides and an ancient crypt that's well worth the downward trek. Needlepoint shows an interesting history of the cathedral. Ripon is an interesting village, with friendly tea rooms and an intriguing 900-year-old horn tradition.

A enlightening place to spend an hour or so. Just off the main street and close to a car park and supermarket
Find the crypt and the treasury - well worth visits
We visited at Hogmanay and there were still some excellent flower arrangements about

Have been to Ripon Cathedral before, but many years ago, so we took the bus from Harrogate, where we were staying and had another look around. Splendid place of worship with very friendly guides to answer any questions. Look out for the seat at the far end of the choir with the misericord carving of a rabbit disappearing down a hole, said to have inspired Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland (his Father worked at the Caethdral) and the organists "hand" used to keep time when he cannot face the choir. Follow the visit with a walk along the nearby canal.

Cannot recall having visited this building in the past and am glad that we have now done so. Some Cathedrals can be a bit over powering but Ripon is quite 'user friendly'

Absolutely wonderful Catherdral, so peaceful and splendid. Well worth a visit for a quiet time and to appreciate the skill of past builders. Had a lovely guided tour of part of the church by a very helpful steward
