“Guided Tour of Ripley Castle & Gardens”

A fascinating Historic attraction - Ripley Castle is one of Yorkshire's most fascinating attractions and is home to one of the oldest families in England. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. If you stroll around the beautiful walled gardens in the summer and suffer from hay fever then take some antihistamines with you as the scent from the flowers are extremely strong.

“Great outdoor theatre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

We visited Ripley Castle to enjoy Sprite Productions' outdoor performance of 'A Comedy of Errors' - I have to say this was the best theatre experience I have had and in an absolutely beautiful setting!

The show was a promenade performance with opportunities to enjoy a picnic before and during the production. It was superbly well organised and the performance was incredible!

Well worth a visit to enjoy this unique and amazing theatre experience :)

The Sprite Productions version of Shakespeare's 'Comedy of Errors' has received brilliant reviews in the press and is hugely entertaining. It is at Ripley until 14th July, with performances daily except Mondays, 7.30 pm (gates open 6.30), and matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2.00 (gates open 1.00) and Sundays at 4.00 (gates open 3.00). Ticket prices: Adults £22, Concessions £18, Children £10, Family ticket (2+2) £34.00, Group discount (10+ people) £17.50 per head. Ticket line 01423 770632. Bring a picnic and garden chair or similar as the play moves from one scene to the next in various parts of the castle's wooded grounds.

“Ripping yarns at Ripley.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

What a wonderful village & Castle with grounds, plus a suprise that it's free parking, that's here & Harlow Carr, who says us Yorkshire folk are tight? You walk through the village to the Castle & it's just as your minds eye would imagine it, with old fashion shops & a proper Buthchers, had a drink in the Boar Inn & was shocked at the prices (I know it's a tourist trap but!!) a white wine & a pint o shandy almost £10, that's London prices. There's also a nice deli & a reasonably priced cafe next to the Castle entrance.
Onto the Castle & grounds, the views over the Lake & the Countryside were fabulous & we walked all the way around but alas never saw a Deer, the Walled Garden was interesting & a nice place to sit & ponder, the highlight was the guided tour of the house (over 1 hr long) conducted by Bob our guide, who regaled stories etc of times & scandals long gone, fabulous.

“What a rip roaring attraction”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

This castle is set in the most beautiful grounds with lakes and walks which you could spend all day exploring. The walled garden was especially outstanding with every type of flower, herb and vegetable you could think of. The castle itself is a wonderful experience and our guided tour was very informative. The tour guide Margot made the day by making all the characters come to life!!
We ate in the castle restaurant and the food was of an excellent quality and reasonably priced. All in all an excellent day out and well worth a visit if you are in the area. The village of Ripley is also worth a walk around with a quaint church and other buildings of interest. The Ripley ice cream is excellent too!
