This is a natural outdoor site where the ground is uneven, subjected to weather and you (probably) have to drive to and pay to park your car. Bit of a no brainer really but amazing what people complain about on these reviews. If you don't like the one-off car parking charge then I recommend joining the National Trust where it allows free parking (yes I know it is in your subscription) ... I personally have found this to be value for money. There are two car parks as you enter from the road and I do believe arrangements can be made, upon request, to allow vehicles to drop off at the central refreshment/house exhibit area if you have mobility problems. There are numerous picnic benches, you can picnic in the upper floor of the exhibit building or you can just find your own spot.

There is an information board in the car park with a map of the site which makes the site look a lot bigger than it actually is. There are a number of rock formations that have been given special names (some need your imagination) and these are numbered on the board. You can cover the site as a circular walk. Some rocks have signs placed in front of them and others are not marked off so you may have to hunt a bit but all adds to the feeling of exploration. Kids and adults alike seemed to have great fun climbing the rocks but you are of course reminded to be careful, climb within your limitations and watch for sharp drops/cliffs particularly on parts of the site that overlook Nidderdale. Some fabulous views in places.

It is the time of year that the bilberries are out so you might want to take some tubs with you.

Kids think it's great, lots of hiding places and rocks to climb. However you do need to keep your eyes on them to make sure they are not doing anything too challenging. Interesting for adults too

This is a great place to get the fresh Yorkshire air. The views are fabulous, the paths are suitable foe pushchair/wheelchair access and there is a cafe/ gift shop on site. The car park is a pay one but free if you are a member of the national trust.
Children will love the rocks and paths weaving the ought the site and it is ideal for dogs too. Just make sure they don't leave any reminders of their visit!
