The Welford Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #12 of 83 Harrogate B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 11, 2012

Stayed here last weekend with three friends from teacher training days. We were on a 'girlie reunion' and suffice it to say we had a fab time and an excellent stay at The Welford'
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine, frendly smiles and offers to carry our baggage. Both Judy and Richard were superb hosts and could not do enough for us.
We could not criticize any aspect of our stay.
The rooms were immaculate with fresh, white duvets and both beds and pillows were so comfortable, we were out like lights!
Lovely walk in shower, complimentary toiletries and oh so fluffy towels! (I just adore a fluffy towel!)
The breakfast was superb. There were a variety of items on the menu to cater for all needs. We had fresh fruit, yogurt, full English with both bacon and eggs cooked to your liking and a couple of Richard's home made sausages. (to die for!) , Piles of toast and marmalade, jams etc. The best breakfast I have EVER had in any establishmeny in the UK!
As we weren't leaving until late afternoon the next day, Judy very kindly allowed us to leave our baggage at the Welford so we weren't encumbered with bags
whilst having a very enjoyable morning and afternoon.
Harrogate is a wonderful town with amazing restaraunts, bars and shops.
I can't praise this place highly enough.
If you are staying in Harrogate, stay here, you will not be disappointed
Thanks again Judy for all your help and advice. I personally hope to return in the near future for a bit of r and r and retail therapy.
My friends are all in agreement with what I have written, but they got me to do the review!
Congratulations on a super place to stay and roll on the next visit!

A 5spot rating does not do this hotel justice. Everything was faultless - welcome, room, cleanliness, food, service, could not be bettered, and we speak as ex-hoteliers ourselves.

Thank you Judy and Richard - we'll be back.

Room Tip: Book early.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely 2 night stay with Judy and Richard in their excellent B&B earlier this month. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and provided with a wealth of local information and recommendations for places of interest we might like to visit. This helpful and interested approach continued throughout our stay, making for a very welcoming atmosphere. Judy was also very flexible and agreed to a slightly earlier breakfast time for us on one of the mornings, enabling us to meet an appointment we had without having miss or rush our breakfast.

The building itself is very nice and well maintained, located on a quiet residential street less than 5 minutes walk from the centre of town. Parking is on-street & by permit, obtained from your hosts.

Our room & en-suite was decorated to a high standard and had comfortable and good quality furnishings and bedding. Although we did not use them, there was also a decent sized flat screen TV and an ipod docking station. WI-FI was also available, which was useful for checking up on details for our days out etc. Overall, thought had clearly been put into the comfort of the guest.

The breakfast was also one of the best we have eaten in a B&B. An excellent range of cereal, fresh fruit and luxury yogurts were laid out buffet style, followed by a choice of cooked options. We opted for the full english breakfast (a holiday treat!) and this was made up of good quality local ingredients cooked to order and served with a smile! The locally made sausage was particularly good.

The location, as mentioned, is ideal, being less than 5 minutes walk from the town centre and only a little further to the Pump Room Museum, Valley Gardens and the famous Betty's tea rooms. There was also a good range of restaurants to choose from, again within a 5 minute walking radius. We ate at Sukhothai (Thai) & L'Abero delle Noci (italian) and had excellent meals in both.

I would absolutely recommend The Welford, and we plan to return ourselves.

We stayed here for the weekend and were very impressed. It's only a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants of Harrogate and the room we stayed in was spacious and clean. The owners were so welcoming and really went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed for our baby girl. We also had a lovely choice of fresh food at breakfast. Great stay!

I took my daughter away for the weekend for her 30th birthday, as we did not want to travel very far only having 1 night away we picked Harrogate. On arriving at the Welford the first issue was parking, although we were not to far from the house we did manage to find what appeared to be the last place, my advice would be to arrive early on Saturday to ensure you get a spot. Judy was charming and very helful, even carrying our bags to the room. The room although quite small, (we had the twin), was clean and bright, the bathroom was tiny and I think someone tall or larger would have problems, the sink was minature and again due to the lack of space not easy to use. However we were only here for 1 night and it was adequate. Breakfast was really good with a very large selection of items catering for all diets.
One thing we did notice whilst in our room was that in the morning there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke, not sure if it was another guest smoking in their room, but as we were on the top floor it was unlikely to have been anything else.
We had a lovely time in Harrogate and went to the turkish baths and although a nice experience I think it was overpriced and would not really recommend going.
We had dinner in The Blue Nile an Egyptian restauarnt which was rustic to say the least, great food alothough you need to go early as they run out of things.
We also went in Weetons as Bettys was crowded and loads of people were waiting to get inside, Weetons was lovely and a good match for Bettys so if you don't want to wait I would recommened you give it a try.

Room Tip: Twin rooms have a very small bathroom

There is nothing bad i can say about the Welford. The owners were friendly and extremely helpful and accomodating, nothing appeared to much trouble for them. The rooms are beautifully furnished and modern. The breakfast was delicious and there was a great choice. It is within easy walking distance of the town centre and the owners were really helpful in suggesting places to eat etc. Would definetely stay there again.

Judy and Richard made us feel at home ,very clean, and a lovely breakfast , easy parking right outside, stayed an extra night because we liked staying there, and drove up to Beamish and back, instead of looking for a B&B nearer to Beamish, , thoroughly recommend this "Home from Home"
