Very disapointing stay, Reception was helpful.. The room and decor were very much of a muddy grey palette and not representative of the Country Living style seen in the Magazine The room was cold and with no way to squeeze any heat out of the radiator . No information in the room about the hotel services except for a notice to say where to obtain fresh milk, The bed was comfortable. The service in the restaurant was slow and chaotic with incorrect food served twice. At breakfast the scrambled eggs had the texture and appearance of being cooked well in advance. The bar service was similarly slow, only one barman for a large hotel meant waits of 15 mins to order drinks were the norm. Not to be recommended.

Room tip: The rooms to the rear are the quietest

I booked the St George hotel for its Gino package as a birthday treat for my Mum. From beginning to end we were absolutely thrilled with the service from staff members (shout out to Tracey on reception and Aygun, both an absolute credit to the hotel and couldn't do enough for us).
Credit to the housekeeping staff also, who keep the hotel and bedrooms absolutely immaculate (mattress protectors and pillow protectors seemed fresh on that day).
The package included a 3 course dinner at Ginos with a glass of prosecco on arrival - delicious!
Also included was a 3 course dinner in the hotel which again was great, you can pay to upgrade to the a la carte menu if you wish and at a small supplement fee I would definitely recommend! The dining room is beautifully decorated but still keeping its classic features.
Breakfast was also included both mornings of our stay. So refreshing to see local produce used and of top quality too! Make sure you try the jams! Great to see the use of proper homemade bread for toasting rather than the boring packaged loaf.
Parking was slightly manic unfortunately, make sure you reserve a parking space as there is limited parks available. Arrived to be told to park in bay 21, already someone parked there so we got our luggage out and reported that we'd parked in bay 20 instead and the reason why. Was then told to park in bay 22 as that was reserved, went out to move car and of course there was a car parked in that bay too! Eventually we got sorted with a space but there seemed to be a lot of confusion as to who was supposed to be parked where! Cannot fault anything else!
A couple of weeks before we arrived I emailed to enquire if we needed to reserve a table at Ginos and also asked if it was possible to have a quieter secluded table as it was a special occasion, no problem at all and our tables for both evenings were booked for us. The day we arrived we got settled into our room then headed off to explore. Only to return to find a board in our room with berries and chocolate written "Happy Birthday" so thoughtful and my mum was absolutely delighted! Not sure who was responsible for that but it was a lovely touch and really made us feel special!
All in all a fantastic stay and I'm already planning my next visit, can't wait to return!

Over all a pleasant environment for a stay but let down by management failing to train the waiters sufficiently to cope at breakfast time, especially when they have coach loads staying. You can wait up to 20 mins for a coffee. They have been set rigid roles and are unable to deviate from these. Shame, as it lets it down compared with other hotels in Harrogate. On Thursdays a bar up the road empties out at 1am to 2am so you won't get any sleep if you have a window open. Friends stayed a few weeks prior to us and suffered the same problem.

Room tip: book a room on the back overlooking the car park.

Hotel staff very welcoming ,pre paid parking a bonus for overnight stay, room and bathroom very clean with all extra toiletries teas coffees biscuits etc .Very comfortable beds .Evening meal a little like school dinners but 3 courses for £25 acceptable. The dining room dark and not well laid out a little TLC required ,breakfast disapointing, eggs not cooked or in my friends case overcooked. The hotel is very well situated for visiting Harrogate for shopping ,theatre ,valley gardens etc so would stay here again but have evening meal out and no cooked breakfast .

Room tip: view rooms on line ours had view of brick wall and glass roof

This place looks great on the website. However, it was not a great experience. Small room and bathroom. Poor customer service. Restaurant awful, food very ordinary and my husband was sure his soup came from a packet. Bar doesn’t do cocktails.
