We really enjoyed our stay at The St George,Food was amazing and the the staff were so friendly and helpful. They all do a fantastic job.
The building does need some care and attention but as the building is so old it is not surprising .
The weekend we stayed it snowed really heavy ,but the Hotel was so warm and comfortable you wouldn't have known it was freezing outside.
The bathroom was the only part of the stay that let the Hotel down, they need to update the shower and add better heating.
We will b e returning in the future .

Thank you for your kind comments, when you stay next why not upgrade to one of our premier or superior bedrooms which are more luxurious.
Hope to see you again soon.

We had a lovley stay in the hotel, the staff are freindly and we were able to access our room early and leave our bags securaly. The location across form the old royal baths is perfect. The Spa was nice

There was some traffic noise in the bedroom the plumming was at time noisy and the batrhroom could due with a refit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking Cresent Road towards the Baths

We certainly are in an ideal spot for all the local amenities. We are constantly carrying out refurbishment within the hotel, but as I'm sure you can imagine this takes time in a building with such character.

My husband and I stayed in the St George Hotel for two nights in January 2013. We really enjoyed our stay the staff are all very friendly, the food was excellent and it was wonderful to stay in such grandure. Yes, it does need a lick of paint and some updating but to be honest this only added to the character of the place. I would not like to see it updated too much as some of the "old world" character may be lost. It was like stepping back in time and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are definately planning on returning. The reception, restaurant, bar and facilities (swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi) are bang up to date. Everyone we met in Harrogate was friendly, we had a couple of great nights out with something avaialble for everyone. We managed to park our car no problem in the hotel car park.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room at the front of the hotel over looking the exhibition centre and could have a co...

My Husband and myself have just come back from a 5 days break with Shearings January 2013 from the St George What a Wonderful run hotel the staff, food and Cleaness The chef Cares about the Food he is providing, the waiting Staff eager to serve Good selections both at breakfast and evening meals generous portions, the rest of the staff from reception Maintenance so helpful . The weather was not the best we had the snow this created a winter wonderland. The hotel was lovely and warm considering the weather outside we also had free access to the pool and spa which was calm and relaxing. would recommend this holiday to any one from young and old. Good Value for money and close to the town centre.

my wife and i stayed for four nights in january 2013 it is one of the nicest hotels we have been in , the whole of the staff were realy professional and polite , the food was well cooked and varied , everywhere was clean. my only gripe is that we had to go out at night for entertainment it would have been good to spend our drinks money in the george. to give your barman something to do he must be bored stiff most nights. thankyou b wellborn.

We weren't actually in room 101, it was room 104, a room that was adequate, basic, utilitarian and 20 years out of date with a radiator without its proper thermostatic control knob which meant the heating was on full or off, but it did have a very comfortable bed and something I always like but don't often find in hotels, bright bedside lamps!

But the bathroom was something else - no heater (it was snowing outside), but an electric towel rail that no matter which switch we tried would not turn on, old wall tiling that in parts was cracked and dirty, no in-built extraction/ventilation system - we used a spare toilet roll to prop open the sash window which in itself was filthy at the top, no flexible shower hose which is becoming unforgiveable in this multicultural era, no shelving where it's needed by the sink and last but not least the lowest toilet seat ever. This bathroom should be dispatched to room 101 immediately.

We stayed two nights and found on the first (Saturday) morning that we were woken at different times by three noisy wagons - delivery and dustbin - between 4.30 am and 7 am. The room, and the room next to it that was occupied by family, looks over the driveway used to access the car park. It's also by the corridor to the fire escape that staff seem to noisily use for their own comings and goings. So battered by noise from two sides!

As for the rest of the hotel it was in many ways more than acceptable and staff we encountered were all friendly and helpful. The dining room is a delight and the food more than acceptable. The lounge areas are comfortable and useable, although the bar seems to be in another cold and largely unused lounge area. There's also a pleasant swimming pool and spa area.

The hotel is ideally placed for central Harrogate as well as its conference and exhibition halls. There's a pleasant Italian restaurant next door and the somewhat upmarket and quite unusual Royal Baths Chinese Restaurant, with some first rate food, just 50 yards away and well worth a visit.

Why don't I report problems to reception you ask. I consider it's the job of hotel management to know about and deal with the idiosyncrasies and problems of each of their rooms, it's not my job to be their private unpaid hotel inspector. Where there are problems or inadequacies I'll tell the world about them - they've had their chance to get the rooms right before I visited.

Having said all this, I'd happily use the hotel again (this was my second visit), but I'd be looking for a nicer, better positioned room with a much better bathroom.

Room Tip: Don't accept room 104.

Having read your comments I have checked room 104 which has a working towel rail in the bathroom and also a thermostat on the wall that controls the heating in the bedroom. I'm sorry the bathroom was not up to standard in your opinion however it is fully clean and fuctional. You say that you shouldn't have to let us know if you are not satisfied, however surely if you can't work the heating it benefits you to ask and gives us the opportunity to assist you. Thank you for your kind comments regarding other aspects of the hotel. Please feel free to call before your next stay to ensure we allocate you a quiet room.

Kind Regards
Edwina

Stayed there for 4 days in early January on a Shearings coach holiday. It was an incredible value package so perhaps my review is biased because we paid so little. However, we found the staff both helpful and polite and the hotel itself well placed centrally in Harrogate. The room was adequate if dated, but the bed comfortable and clean.
Food (half board) was included in the offer on a set menu option of 3 dishes, including one vegetarian option each day. The menu was rotated daily and could be upgraded for an additional cost if required. Food overall I would say very good to very good.

The spa area was very good, the pool water warm enough and all facilites in working order.

Overall would recommend and stay there again.

Room Tip: We asked for (and got) a room at the rear of the hotel, second floor and had no trouble with noise.
