we stayed in the cairn hotel on a dinner b&b package through strathmore travel .Rooms were first class, comfortable and clean.Breakfast was excellent, cooked,or continental.Dinner was 3 courses with coffee and mints in the lounge.
Overall the hotel is very central in the town public transport just outside the entrance .
Well worth staying here.

Visited for our second RAF Masirah & Raf Salalah Veterans Association, and although we knew in advance that there would be a very, very large party from the local young farmers on the Friday evening (and it was a very large party) it did not detract in any way from the service we had for dinner and attention after. Well done to all concerned at the Cairn - excellent customer service.
We also had our annual Gala Dinner on the Saturday evening and again received excellent service.

Room Tip: I was on the 3rd floor on the corner and had a very nice large and comfortable room with great views...

As we booked this last minute, we weren't sure what it would be like here, but we had a lovely stay; friendly and very helpful staff, good food, a clean and comfortable room and an excellent location - only a five minute walk from the centre of Harrogate!

A rolling programme of renovation is taking place which had not appeared to have reached out room. Before I start being critical staff were abundant, friendly and helpful. Our complaints centred on the room. The only window you could see out of was in the bathroom. There were no batteries in the TV remote. Which, to be fair, was rectified immiediately. Once we got this we discovered the TV was not tuned in. Again this was rectified quickly but only the original terrestial five channels plus ITV3 and a couple of others. There was NOT even the full range of Freeview. There was only one small wardrobe. I could go on but it would just be a list of minor niggles. If we had gone to, for instance, the more centrally located Travelodge we would have got a better room for much less. That said it was a five minute walk from the major attractions with plenty of car parking. We were told that parking is an issue with the very central hotels.

The Cairn is one of the many hotels in Harrogate that date from it's peak as a spa town. It is rather showing its age and is a bit worn in parts (parts of the carpet in my room literally threadbare) but it is still a good place to stay if you don't want to pay for perfection. It has charm and the stained glass that is original is particularly lovely. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom modern and, let's face it, those are the two most important things you want in a room.
We stayed on the hotel's afternoon tea package with dinner, bed and breakfast and it was great value.
The hotel is approx 5 minutes walk from the center of Harrogate but uphill on the return journey so beware if you have significant mobility difficulties. It's also within walking distance (through the park and the woods) to the RHS garden Harlow Carr and that is well worth a visit.
The reception staff are very friendly and efficient and the restaurant staff are a mixed bag but generally OK.
A good breakfast and the inclusive dinner is more than adequate. Although the choice a bit limited you can choose from the a la carte for a small supplement. That seems such a sensible idea if you want to provide good value but still cater for the more choosy.
Our room was at the end of a corridor and was really quiet with a good view of the garden.
No complaints.
