The Crown Hotel
Ranked #14 of 30 Hotels in Harrogate
Reviewed October 7, 2012

My daughter was married here is September, and I was impressed by how smoothly the day ran. The rooms for both the ceremony and the wedding breakfast/evening party were very pleasant. The staff were very helpful - nothing we needed was too much trouble. The meal was good quality, and service was efficient and unobtrusive. Bar prices were reasonable by comparison with other hotels I've stayed in.
Many of the guests including myself & my husband stayed the night. Our room was fine, and others that I saw also seemed comfortable. We had an excellent night's sleep, though some guests who were in bedrooms at the front said that they had been kept awake by noise from people leaving nearby clubs/pubs - which of course the hotel can do nothing about. Breakfast the next morning was also well organised, and high quality.
Thanks to everyone involved at The Crown for helping to make this a memorable day!

Room Tip: A room at the back of the hotel would be quieter, especially at a weekend.

Booked the hotel as a last minute and on arrival we were very impressed. Staff on reception very helpful and we were even able to check in 3hours early which was great. Car park full but offered alternatives. The room itself was very basic and not worth the money. Bed was awful, room too hot and creaky floor boards!! Breakfast was ok but had better. Elegant looking hotel let down by room and more importantly cost of rooms .

Dear Blandy_10

Many thanks for taking the time to write to write a review on Trip Advisor, unfortunately one of the hazzards of an old hotel is creaky floorboards, the rooms are all differnt sizes which is typical of old hotels.
Thank you for your feedback

After a relative had stayed here a few years ago, I phoned the Crown hotel to make enquiries about price and availabilty over Christmas. I was asked if I could phone back later that day to speak to the lady who normaly deals with reservations. I was understandably surprised and said that I thought that was poor customer service. The lady then said she would take my number and would call me back after 5pm that day. That was two weeks ago and I'm still waiting. Needless to say I won't be contacting them again.

I stayed here for one night with colleagues when attending a function in another hotel. The car park is not big enough for the number of rooms. My room was large and the bathroom huge, the room was very clean. My major complaint was that there was only ONE electric socket in the room and this was NOWHERE NEAR a mirror!!How on earth is a girl expected to do her hair??
We had drinks in the bar and they had run out of draught beer which isn't good for a hotel of that size ( or any hotel really).
On a plus point the hotel is very centrally located for Harrogate town centre and the breakfast was very good.

I would stay again for one night but probably wouldn't stay for more than one night.

The hotel is nicely situated, large and old fashioned and rather tired. Decent sized rooms and very clean (apart from curtains, which were stained and also had dirty net curtains). Very cold rooms - large windows and no heating on although cold wet weather - only one small radiator anyway so could never be pleasantly warm. A (one time) elegant hotel with some touches of grandeur yet needing some decoration and updating and modernising. Very creaky floorboards. Reasonable breakfast choice and friendly and helpful staff. Not expensive but faded glory which I do not recommend.

Ideal for shopping, restaurants and nearby park. Breakfast is standard fare but good. The receptionists are very pleasant and welcoming.

A local resident summed it up as "faded glory". Two other guests said "It's just like being in "Are You Being Served?". The hotel needs substantial refurbishment. The decor is dull and unimaginative and the furniture looks cheap. Plastic flowers decorate the reception area and was the bar really open? The staff at breakfast time although responsive appeared to lack any inter-personal skills or personality. For about 100+ rooms the parking facilities are totally inadequate.

Room Tip: To get in the small car park arrive about 11.am when people are checking out.

Dear Bob-bulginbarra

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review of Trip Advisor, im sorry that you felt the general standard of the hotel was looking tired, we constantly repainting and changing soft furnishings etc in order to improve.
The carpark unfortunately is the size that it we do not promote ourselves as having a large carpark.
I would like to thank you for your feedback on these matters

Arrived here quite late on a Sunday, was here for a one night stop over due to a work event at another Hotel.
The lady behind the desk wasn't really very helpful, very short and to the point, no extra smile or anything like that. So wasn't a great first impression of the staff at this place.
The front is very grand and looks amazing, as does the lobby of this hotel.
Car parking is very bad, it was pouring with rain and at first we had nowhere to park. I understand this is an old hotel and the car park isn't huge, but some sort of information about this would be appreciated.
The rooms are lovely, and the bathrooms are modern. Bed is very comfortable.
Floorboards are very noisy, but this is to be expected with an old building.
Breakfast was very tasty. Really good choice of what to have.
Would stay here again, but it does feel like more of a work hotel than anything else.
