“Well appointed character hotel .”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

Large victorian hotel, well kept througout with recently decorated rooms Our room (on south side) had a cracking view of the town.

Staff were helpful and friendly at all times.

Good location for centre of town with off street parking.

Good facilities.

We took to the place and thoruoghly enjoyed our stay.

The only negative was the first impression as the main entrance and car parking is at the rear and the rear elevation with all the downpipes and fire escapes does not do the building justice.

Room Tip: Ask for south eleveation

Dear ywnoc,

Thank you for posting your review of the Majestic Hotel and so pleased that you had a great stay.

You're right that the main entrance was never the original access point though with the popularity of the car we were presumably co-ersed into changing our entrance early in the 20th Century.

Many thanks, Vince

After reading quite a few poor reviews on tripadvisor I almost didn't book this hotel. I'm so pleased I chose to ignore these as our own personal experience of this hotel was world's apart from the gripes in these reviews. I booked through their central reservations on 21/2/14 to arrive 2 days later on 23rd and got what I considered to be a great deal. 2nights b&b in an upgraded deluxe double with dinner and a bottle of wine on the 1st night and afternoon tea on the 2nd day with a late checkout of 1pm. Cost-£206.
On arrival the hotel is quite impressive a big classic looking Victorian building with loads of character, lovely looking inside very clean and lovely original features.
Check in was quick and easy took less than 10 mins although if a few arrive at the same time to check in I can imagine a bit of a wait as the reception is quite small for the size of the hotel.
The room was massive, clean and well decorated with a superking bed large wardrobe a table with a couple of chairs and tv on a set of drawers and a separate dressing table. Bathroom was nice and clean with everything you could need. Good shower over bath sink, toilet and toiletries also robes and slippers. Ours was room 126.
The food was lovely, staff were friendly and service was good. Breakfast was buffet style and was well cooked with lots of choice and afternoon tea was really enjoyable with sandwiches,cakes,4 scones and even a refill of tea. Hotel bar prices are quite expensive with a pint of San Miguel at £4.25 and a club sandwich at £12 but if your meals are included as ours were it doesn't have to cost you the earth. The spa was ample a fair size swimming pool about 15m ish with a Jacuzzi and gym. The changing rooms are quite small with a sauna in each mens and womens. It's not a fantastic spa set up but if you just fancy a quick swim or a rest in the Jacuzzi it fits the bill. I can only tell you of my own personal experience but I'm so glad I didn't let reviews put me off staying here. We had a great relaxing 2 nights and wouldn't hesitate staying here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a deluxe double or a refurbished room ours was 126 and was a corner room and was impressive...

Dear peteflan7,

Thank you for your 5 star review of the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate.

It was a delight to read and in fairness to some other reviewers you had selected a Deluxe Room which are our very best rooms and got a great deal to stay.

I'm extremely pleased that we exceeded your expectations and on balance when considering the reviews overall we do get good scores and feedback in the vast majority of cases.

Kind regards, Vince

We stayed at the Majestic for 2 nights for our anniversary, first time staying in Harrogate. We had a fabulous time. There is a sheer elegance and character that makes this hotel tower over others. I was thrilled with the room given (164) - spacious and well equipped, the jacuzzi bath was also a welcomed feature of this room. There is much choice at breakfast and the quality produce is good and the staff are very attentive at meal times.

We hope to return again soon.

Just returned from a two night stay. The entrance is very grand and all the communal areas are wonderful - reminds me of a time gone by - but all clean and well maintained. In all such places the bedrooms do not always live up to the hype - but do not worry our room (121) was enourmous, beautifully decorated and in keeping with the grand style of the hotel and the bathroom all mod cons! The staff were all very friendly and looked after us very well. We got a great deal through Secret Escapes - 2 nights B&B in premier room, dinner on first night with bottle of wine and afternoon tea on second day all for £209 - bargain! Hotel is within a few mins of the Town Centre and even closer to a Wetherspoons pub - what more could we want! Pool quite small but clean and jacuzzi good!

My wife and I stayed here recently for two nights. Check in was very efficient and friendly.
Our room 259 was a good size with lovely furniture in keeping with the hotels character, the shower was extremely powerful which was great. The only few negatives had were the socket near the windows by the standard lamp not working, some mould round the ceiling of the bath area, and most concerning no curtain or blind covering the bathroom windows which was overlooked from the other side of hotel, i know it's frosted glass, but so are most bathrooms, a blind is a must. My wife therefore had to shower with the light off! Not very safe.
That's the negatives out of the way. They hardly detract from what was a wonderful stay, all the staff we encountered were extremely courteous and friendly, the breakfast was excellent, in such a fabulous relaxing room, probably the most relaxing hotel dining room we have been in.
The main bar area also we found a great place to chill out on our return later in the evening.
You can't help but ponder and imagine what it must have been like in the early years with the grand events etc that were staged there.
We hope to visit harrogate again in the future, and without doubt will stay at the majestic. Give me character anyway, than some modern sterile hotels

We booked The Majestic online for a 4 day anniversary trip. Arrived at the hotel and had a somewhat disappointing check-in. The champagne we had ordered was not "on the system" even though we had a copy of it on our booking. The lady who checked us in wasn't really bothered and tried to send us to the bar to order it ourselves. Luckily another receptionist stepped in and helped us out. After a dodgy start, the rest of the weekend was lovely. The room was very spacious and we liked having a semi-private balcony. Shower was a bit dribbly, but overall it was fine. Dinner in the restaurant was very nice and served quickly. Breakfast was really good with a great choice of hot and cold items. Bar area was relaxing too. On check out there were £55.00 worth of items on the bill that weren't ours and the receptionist took them off straight away without questioning them. Really enjoyed our stay and the hotel is well placed for a short walk into town for the many bars and restaurants Harrogate has to offer... we just felt that the check in and out at reception let the hotel down.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a superior rooms.

Visited the hotel on a SPA day visit, on arrival hotel looked a bit tired and old and the swimming pool area seemed in need of some TLC. We were given towels and made our lunch selection (lots of choice).

Changing facilities were dated and the pool was full of splashing and screaming kids with all the sun loungers reserved by their parents! Not the relaxing SPA day we had in mind! The treatment was good but shorter than the advertised 30 minutes as the therapist cut short both mine and my partners treatments. The pre selected lunch was very tasty.

The hotel is in a lovely position for a wander into town and the friendly gym attendant let us leave our car in the car park for as long as we wished with a paid car park ticket.

I am not a complaining person, this is a genuine honest summary - I left slightly disappointed and wouldn't return for a SPA or gym visit again. I can't comment on the rooms but the hotel seemed in need of some TLC.

Deat tom13mck,

Thank you for posting your review of your spa day. I'm sorry that you ended up feeling slightly disappointed although receiveing good service and an enjoyable lunch.

We do try to make clear that we have a health club which is available to local members as well as hotel residents and with it being half terms we do see more children in the club.

Outside of the school holidays the club is quieter.

Your feedback is appreciated and helpful to us.

Many thanks, Vince
