“Lovely 1 night stay”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

We enjoyed a lovely 1-night stay at the Kimberley Hotel in February. The staff were very welcoming from the reception staff to the restaurant staff in the evening. We stayed in the executive room on the 3rd floor which was stunning, lovely nice clean modern bathroom and very comfy bed. We had an evening meal in the restaurant and they had a chinese menu on as well as the usual a la carte menu due to it being chinese new year. Only fault we could find was the car park at the back of the hotel became full very quickly and spaces became limited. Overall though we had a lovely stay and would stop there again.

We had a 2 night weekend stay here and it was wonderful.

The room:
We stayed in an executive suite which was a decent size.
All necessary amenities were included, and the bathroom was gorgeous.
The room was cleaned to a high standard.
The only room for improvement would be easier to find switches for the bedside lamps, and bedside plugs to allow you to charge your phone overnight and have it next to you.

The service:
Service was excellent, the staff were friendly, enthusiastic and accomodating. They were a pleasure to deal with.

The breakfast service:
Depending what time you attend breakfast, it is quite busy. The hotel is deceptively large and they did seem to struggle to keep up to the number of people at certain times. The food however was wonderful and the selection is very good. The coffee was beautiful.

The car park:
Car parking space is limited, but the fact that they offer car parking in this location is a very good thing. £6 per day is very reasonable for this location in Harrogate.

The location:
Excellent location, close to the conference centre and only a very short walk to the town centre. It's a nice safe area.

Overall:
This is a first class hotel and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Harrogate.

Just returned from a 2 night break at the kimberley and had a lovely break ! the hotel was really lovely ,the staff were extemely pleasant + helpful , and the food was fantastic ! we got the hotel on a kgb deal and believe me it more than lived up to our expectations, the room was comfortable, the bed was very large + comfy, the tea +coffe tray was filled each day along with a pkt biscuits and a chocolate each, the room was very warm and the tv was a big flat screen with plenty of channels,as we were here celebrating my daughters 40th { 6 of us altogether} we had a night out on the friday into harrogate centre, and it is only about a 10-15 min walk to the bars +shops,on the sat after a huge beautiful breakfast we had a jaunt up to the shops and spend the day shopping ,{lots of lovely shops} we were very fortunate to stumble across a very lovely shop that just so happened to have a sale on + think we almost emptied the shop ! but i would certainly recommend this hotel + would love to think i will at some time be going back. thank you to all the staff at this hotel for making our stay so pleasurable + making my daughters birthday special.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 2010 my daughter in 2008, + my other daughter in 2007 + i think ours was a slightl...

I stayed with a colleague here on business for 2 nights . The hotel was busy due to a local conference and parking in the hotel carpark was very difficult .check in was ok and efficient . My room was a double, reasonably furnished and warm ( it was freezing outside).... But we both noticed when we checked in , there was a strange smell in the corridors, like blocked drains???This seemed to linger all the first night. The room was comfortable and decent sized, but a little dark, making it hard to read or write anything. Bed comfortable , bathroom adequate. Next morning the buffet breakfast was good, with decent quality bacon, sausages etc.but all the fried eggs were overcooked and hard.the "smell" of the day before had gone.the bar area was friendly and warm , with good Tetley bitter on draught.Second nights sleep was not good due to an extractor fan just outside the room being on all night.breakfast once again good, but all fried eggs once again hard.
Checkout quick and efficient.
I found this hotel ok, but could have been better with a little more effort.saying that, I would stay again if in the area on business, or pleasure

We stayed here on a KGB deal and it was great value for money. Staff very good, room spotlessly clean with tea, biscuits, chocolates, shampoo, soap etc replaced daily. The bed was very comfortable and there was a large tv on wall with free view channels. Yes there was an intermitent light from the sprinkler but it didnt bother us. We were supposed to have a free bottle of wine but it wasnt there. As soon as we asked it appeared. The breakfast is one of the best I have had with excellent quality ingredients, also it was help your self although if you let the staff know they will do a plate for you and bring it to your table. There was the usual bacon, eggs, mushrooms, hashbrowns etc but none of it was greasy and swiming in fat. There was also salami, ham and cheese and fresh fruit salad. My only complaint was that the room was too hot, however, on the second morning we asked to sit in the side room which was cooler and this wasnt a problem for the staff. We had a drink in Christies bar down the road and another drink and freshly cooked pizza at Alexandras. Both were very good. The location was just a 5 minute walk from the centre. We got parked without problem both nights even when we arrived at 5.30 p.m. on a Friday. I would stay here again wihtout question.

My wife and I, together with 3 other couples, stayed here on a two night KGB deal. We were first to arrive and were greeted by the very friendly Reception staff who checked us in quickly and efficiently. We had chosen to upgrade and our room in the annexe was beautiful- spotlessly clean and spacious with a great tv as well as a stylish bathroom. The hotel is ideally situated being within a few minutes walk from Harrogate town centre and all its ammenities. As dinner on one night was included in our deal, we all decided to eat at the hotel on the first night, Friday. We all arranged to meet for pre dinner drinks in the hotel lounge/bar but were told that the only place we could be served was in Signatures which, as one of your previous reviewers has said, is a separate franchise from the hotel. Again, as the previous reviewer says, this is a really strange arrangement as the staff are the same as the rest of the hotel, but you are unable to charge to your room. This was OK with us but caught a couple of our friends out and could have been embarrassing for them. This is now where the `other half ` of the hotel comes in. Signatures is modern, warm and welcoming with good food, a well stocked bar with excellent service. At the end of our meal, the waiter asked us if we would care to move into the hotel bar/lounge area where we could continue drinking and chatting, as the restaurant and bar were closing. We were happy to do this until we actually moved. The lounge area was cold , empty and unwelcoming. The bar itself was a hatch which was shut when we walked through. We had to press a bell for someone to come and open up. We had been told in Signatures that the hotel bar was fully stocked but when we asked for a couple of drinks ( a pint and a dark rum ) we were told they did not have them as they had a very limited stock . Also, they did not take cash and in this case the drinks had to be charged to a room. We all found this set up a bit confusing and annoying and cannot understand the hotel. If they made more use of the Residents bar and lounge the hotel would bring in more revenue as more of the residents would use it-- we came across several people during the course of the weekend who wandered in and then wandered straight out again ! The same goes for the restaurant-- we cannot understand why it is not fully integrated into the hotel. The dinner/ drinks arrangement aside, it was the breakfasts that also made up the `other half ` again. You felt as if you were walking into chaos with what seemed like adequate staff in terms of numbers but there did not seem any one of them that knew what they were doing. As others have said, the service was really poor with noone even asking if we wanted tea or coffee or toast and when you did actually order, it took so long to come you had almost finished your food. We found the breakfast to be adequate rather than good, with the arrangements for keeping the food hot rather awkward as there was nowhere to put the large dish covers while you hepled yourself, especially if others wanted food from the next dish! That said the food was at least fresh and hot and refreshed frequently. This hotel is confusing as the Reception and rooms, together with Signatures Restaurant are worth the 4* rating, whereas the bar/lounge and breakfast arrangements/service are anything but!
