“Very nice hotel for a Business stop over”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

Great service through out hotel. Excellent Breakfast, nice dinner and the bar is also good.

Room was clean and a good size. Flat screen TV, Safe, Iron, Hair dryer, coffee making facilities and bed was also comfy.

About 10min away from city centre by car.

I stayed one night at this hotel on a visit to Peterborough with my partner.

The Marriott Peterborough is located in a business park, so unfortunately not the most romantic location, neither is it particularly conveniently located for the visitor to Peterborough, though I imagine it's handy for business visitors.

The grounds themselves, however, are among the best I have seen in a non-countryside UK hotel, and certainly the best for the price range (I paid £85 for 1 night in a double room and breakfast for 2). Parking is ample and the entrance lobby is well-lit, clean and modern. The reception staff were professional and check-in was swift.

My hotel room was clean, fitted to a modern standard, and equipped with a small kettle, television, iron, ironing board and electronic safe. Room service and laundry services were available, although I did not use them.

The hotel has a leisure club with a gym, swimming pool, steam room, sauna, and sun deck, which are free to use for hotel guests. I did not use the gym but the other leisure facilities were modern and well-maintained. The swimming pool is about 15m long, with rounded corners, but still a shape amenable to swimming laps.

The hotel gardens are a bit sparsely planted, but everything is tidy and well maintained.

Breakfast was a buffet with cereals, fruit, toast, cooked English breakfast and omelettes made to order, served in a restaurant decorated in contemporary style. Tables are served swiftly but courteously. My only reservation regarding the breakfast was that most fruit was tinned rather than fresh, though that is a personal preference.

As mentioned earlier, the Marriott is located a little out of the way, with about a 15-20 minute drive to get to the city center. It is, however, very close to Ferry Meadows Country Park in the heart of Nene Park, a lovely place with plenty of short walks, cycling, watersports, and even barbeque pits.

I recommend this hotel wholeheartedly for any traveller to Peterborough looking for a modern, well-equipped hotel to spend the night, with delicious breakfast and leisure facilites to while away the idle hours, and who don't mind a short drive to the city center. However, if you are looking for a quaint little family-run hotel with rustic charm, you may want to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: There are 2 floors and no lift, so if you have access issues make sure to get a ground floor room.

This is a superb venue for weddings. My daughter married here last Friday. The wedding co-ordinator and all the staff were fantastic and everything was perfect with no complaints at all! A lot of us booked in for the night and the comfort in the rooms was first class. The food for the wedding was brilliant and a very well organised occasion was enjoyed by all.

Room Tip: If you do not like climbing stairs please ask for a room on the ground floor!

My daughter had her wedding here. It is a great hotel, 2 main room for weddings, one a bit dearer then the other. But both nice. The most expensive on has got access to a lovely little garden. We were in the other room but we were still able to walk through the room out till the garden for some lovely pictures. The staff are really friendly and the food we has at the wedding were superb. They were really efficient and everybody had food that were lovely and hot. We did not stay in the hotel, we thought it were a bit pricy, but several of the guests did. I think it was £80 - £90 for the night. A lovely hotel, with lots of parking. Very near to the East of England Show ground. So do not need a car to get to it. Also a nice hotel to stay in if you want to explore Peterborough. You can not walk into the city but drive of take the bus.

We stayed over night and found the Hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful . The room on the first floor was a nice size and well appointed. There was a good size bathroom with a shower in the bath. The bed was comfortable. We had a sandwich in the bar at lunch time and a dinner in the evening both of which were good.

We had a family room took the granchildren. Good place for anything on either in Peterborough or the surounding area, especially if you are going to shows on at the East of England Showground you dont need a car it can stay at the hotel as the ground is just the other side of the roundabout easy access. To go into the town itself walk to the Nene Vally Railway get a look at hte past. All the staff at the hotel are friendly and helpfull. The cost of the hotel is a bit more than just a B&B but then it is a Marriott.

Room Tip: All rooms are good but away from the carpark side is quieter.

I regularly stay in Peterborough for business, but often use a different hotel down the road to this one - had to stay here as the other one was fully booked.

The hotel is much of a muchness - nothing at all makes it stand out from the crowd. It seems to have been an old road side style hotel, and I suspect Marriot have bought it, and simply re-carpeted it, etc.

The corridors are incredibly long; and I mean, incredibly long. Artificial lighting along them makes them quite un-pleasant.

Rooms are standard; although, I did complain about mine as the air con unit was very loud (which they fixed on the first day) and the sheets were ripped, but clean. Again, I complained, and the lad on reception said "oh, that's not good" - erm, yes mate, thats why I told you.

Swimming pool area was OK - quite small; I was stunned to see them marketing it to locals as a health club; its not big enough - I can only imagine how busy it would get of an evening when the hotel is full AND the locals come and use the facilities.

It really is in the middle of nowhere - perfect for me, as my office is around the corner; not so good for people wanting a weekend away. Nothing is within reasonable walking distance.

Breakfast was great; nothing was greasy, beans were not cheap (!), staff relatively attentive but clearly working so hard for their money.

Would I pay their going rates? No! If I had to, would I stay here? No!
