Peterborough Marriott Hotel
Ranked #13 of 27 Hotels in Peterborough
Reviewed February 20, 2012

I stay in Peterborogh often for business, and usually stay at hotels near city center. Was booked for the first time here at the Marriott, and although the hotel itself is the best in Peterborough, the location is terrible.

First, the hotel itself. The rooms were American style in size and amenities. They looked brand-new. Large flat-screen TV, full bath, large and confortable beds. Probably the first hotel I've been in the UK that met typical American standards for size of a hotel room.

The breakfast was included, and was very typical (but good quality) English breakfast. The hotel also had a very nice pool.

There is no wi-fi (a shock given its 2012 and this looks like a rennovated hotel) and Internet was 15 GBP per day (typical Marriott).

The location though is a deal breaker for me. I won't stay here again...its in the middle of nowhere. It is about a 10 GBP taxi ride each way to city center, and about 15 GBP to the station. You have to wait 15-20 minutes for the taxi's to show up...and the ride (multiple round abouts) actually made me feel a bit sick a few times (which never happens to me). There are just too many hotels that are decent near or in city center (i.e. the Park Inn or The Bull) that I'd rather stay at.

Overall the best hotel in PBoro, but the worst location. In the UK its all about walking or public transport for me, so location here is a deal breaker.

I have stayed here twice recently for work conferences. It's a nice hotel and pretty much what you would expect from a Marriott, except one thing. The first time we stayed we eat in the restaurant which was pretty terrible. The place was almost empty the menu uninspiring and when the food arrived it was terrible. On the second stay we eat in the bar. The menu was much better and varied and when the food arrived it was really nice. The bar was also lively and had a much better atmosphere. My top tip if you stay here eat in the bar.

This is without a doubt the best hotel to stay. The range of facilities is second to none around here and the quality of the rooms is also excellent as you would expect from the marriott. The staff know how to look after the guest and particular thanks to Guvan and Martyna.

Stayed here as part of a large group for a black tie dinner. 200 of us so I assumed that they were going to be stretched.
Dinner service was efficient though some of the waiting staff were scruffy and did not protray a particularly professional image.
For 200 people finishing dinner they allocated one bar but with only 3 staff things were busy.
Rooms were comfortable, clean and warm, pool and health area good and breakfast just right after the night before.

I stayed here several times from June to September 2011 as I travel to Peterborough with work regularly. The reception staff are very attentive and friendly. the rooms are comfortable although it can be quite a trek from reception. Beds are nice, and I've always slept quite well. Bathrooms are nice, although the shower can take a while to warm up run it for a while before getting in!! The bar is ok, but the food is not good. I'd recommend a trip around the corner to the Cuckoo pub - very nice food there. Breakfast is fine, nothing spectacular, but average enough with a decent choice of items. The main issue I'd have with this hotel is that it's a bit far out of Peterborough. My colleagues and I have started staying in the Park Inn for recent trips, it's similar standard but cheaper and in central Peterborough which cuts down on taxi trips (a few extra minutes in bed!!)

Room Tip: ask for one close to reception if you have heavy bags to carry, some rooms are a long walk.

I have now stayed here several times and the quality is constantly good. A pleasant welcome and clean and fresh reception is always my first thought on arrival. Rooms are quiet and the beds are so comfortable.
Only problem is the gym which is very small and poorly ventilated.
I will continue to use this as my 'hotel of choice' when in the area.

Room Tip: Always ask for an upstairs room. (there are only two floors)
