Owner description: You probably know us as a lovely place for children to see the animals, run around in beautiful countryside and let off steam in our state-of-the-art play barn - but there's a lot more to Sacrewell. With the help of £1.4 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund, our 18th century water mill is being transformed into a national centre for milling excellence - take a tour and find out how your great-grandparents got their daily bread. Foodies can also join a tractor trip around the fields of our tenant farmers Riverford Organic Farms (it's on our land). Then there's our wildlife trail, scavenger hunt and two new rambles - if you're lucky, you'll see the rare red kites and brown hares. Seasonal events range from our Lamb National to ploughing with vintage tractors. In our 50th year as a charity dedicated to agricultural education, we continue to welcome students of all ages who want to learn traditional skills and get an insight into rural life. We hope that all our visitors not only have a great day out but feel they've learned something too.

“Excellent for young & old”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We live not far & I have passed the Farm centre daily for years, but never visted. With fmaily children we had an excuse to vist and it was great. The children were having so much fun, as was my 48 year old husband - he loved the pond dipping!

“Sadly disappointed- Teddy bears adventure picnic”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We went for the teddy bears adventure picnic event, only to to be told our children's teddies couldn't take part as they weren't proper teddies! After a call suddenly all was fine and they could join in the day. The activites were very slow and the children got fed up waiting. Not many animals compared to previous visit. Grounds very overgrown and looking tired. A very disappointing family day out

Dear June,
We have taken on board your comments and have discussed it with the member of staff concerned.
I can only put the confusion about the teddy bears down to a misunderstanding as we had agreed prior to the event that all toys classed as “soft toys or stuffed animals” should be issued passports.
In regard to the wait, there were only two members of staff working on the attractions. As I’m sure you can understand, this is a time consuming job and they do their best to make it as fun as possible for everyone taking part. We organised two sessions of each activity, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. This was in order to reduce the number of people at each session. I am sorry that you felt the wait was too long and it is something we will look into for next year.
I am also sorry to hear that you felt there were not many animals here. I hope you were issued with a map at Reception to pin point where all of our animals, paddocks and pens are. In the last couple of months we have boosted our offering even more with the arrival of two young calves and a rare breed British Lop pig with her piglets.
These have joined our two breeds of rare sheep and their lambs, two breeds of goat, Shire horses, Shetland ponies, donkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs, degus, ferrets, mice, peacocks, gerbils, tortoise and Saddleback pig in offering a wide range of traditional and native farm animals. This does not include the amount of wildlife we have on the Farm including a Badger set, swans and geese.
As an outdoor attraction we are always affected by the weather. The rain we had in August made everything grow very quickly and although we try to keep on top of it, parts of the Farm do admittedly become overgrown. We also like to keep some areas overgrown to encourage wildlife. We do however, at all times, make sure the pathways and play areas are clear and cut so that they are accessible to our visitors.

We are sorry to hear that you feel you had a disappointing day out. Lambing is our busiest time of the year so we put on several feeding shows throughout the day to ensure that everyone has a go. I know that our Rangers try their very best to make sure each child has a go at feeding a lamb but admit that at times, some children are unintentionally missed.
We are proud to have held our prices at the Farm for the last three years, despite the economic climate, and feel that we are still very good value for money. We do advertise that surcharges may apply for some activities-the tractor ride is one of them. However, at £1.50 pp for a decent tractor tour of the Farm, we feel that it is also very good value.

“Lovely Day Out”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We have visited Sacrewell twice, both times in early March to see the new lambs, which are an absolute delight. If you time it well, you can see the orphan lambs being bottle fed. There are lots of other animals to see, too, and you can buy food for them when you buy your entrance ticket. There's also a shop and cafe. Overall a lovely place to visit.
