Description: The Cuckoo in Alwalton is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

The last time we visited the Cuckoo was well over a year ago and it was so bad we didn't return for a long time, until this weekend just gone! We went for Sunday lunch, the staff were very friendly and attentive, we were given a nice, big table in the "snug" area which was a little cold as we were by a window but it was a nice spot. The sharing platter starter was very tasty, in particular the duck pate which you can have as a starter on it's own and I would recommend! We all had Sunday Roast and the flavours were lovely, my pork loin was very tender. Our only criticism would be to serve the gravy on the side, we didn't realise it would be on the plate already and there was quite a lot which some of our party weren't too keen on. The desserts finished things off nicely, be warned the "giant" profiteroles really live up to their name and the trio of desserts definitely needs to be shared. We had 1 sharing starter, 5 main courses, 4 desserts and 8 drinks and the bill as £107 which I think represents pretty good value. Glad to see they have improved things as it's a charming setting, we won't leave it so long to return next time!

Went on mother's day, without a booking. No problem, in fact we got a warm and cheerful welcome. Nice atmosphere, nice food, nice place. Would go again. Not expensive either.

Lovely atmosphere, attentive staff and a good quality of food for a reasonable price. Would go there again!

Mid week lunch time visit and no problem getting a table. We were advised we may have to wait about 20 minutes for our food as they had 2 large parties in. I appreciated the warning but it did take quite a bit longer than 20 minutes. However, apart from luke warm fries the food was very good and plentiful. The wild boar burger was excellent as was the Haddock.
Attitude of the staff couldn't be faulted, all were very pleasant and welcoming, but also rushed off their feet! I didn't have anywhere to rush off to so can forgive the wait for the food, but as this restaurant is so near to the business park I think they are not doing themselves any favours with too few staff when customers have to get back to work.

The food was OK, 10 of us ona busy lunch time. Sandwich was good, unfortunately made a while before as the sliced bread was dry. Must have been sitting in the open air for a while.
General impression good, but make sure the food is fresh.
