“Nice Surroundings and A Decent Meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Having been looking for a nice pub for a Sunday lunch we ended up at the Cuckoo whilst it may be a technically a pub chain pub it seems to create quite a pleasant atmosphere most feels more homely than the majority of pubs of this type.

The food is of a good standard (nothing especially stands out as stunning but it's all cooked to a good standard), although it still could benefit for a bit more imagination and may be a few tweaks here and there its good wholesome fayre.

The range of real ales is a bit limited for a pub of this type and I'd like to see more choices but the quality is good which shows a pub that cares for its beer which is always a good sign.

If you are looking for quite evening out go mid week as it can get pretty busy and quite lively at weekends but it's ideal for groups with our without children.

Give it a try you won't regret it but I'd suggest booking which can be conveniently on the pubs website which seems really effecient and makes booking on the hop a few simple clicks.

“Nice setting, shame about the food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

I have been to The Cuckoo several times and the food sadly never improves. The pub itself is lovely, beautiful old building, cosy decor etc. It's just the food. Not only do you have to wait ages for it, it turns up luke warm. There isn't much choice for vegetarians either. I had fish and chips which is usually a safe bet wherever you go. We had to wait almost an hour for our desserts, I can't see what takes so long in taking a cheesecake out of the fridge??!! Talking of cheesecakes, one of our party ordered a slice and the kitchen must have run out because he was presented with slop-on-a-plate. It looked like the chef had either scrapped the mixing bowls and put all components of a cheesecake on to a plate or he was in a bad mood and just flung it on to a plate? We had our Christmas meal there last year and it was awful to say the least. Lukewarm food, poor service and the vegetables were boiled to within an inch of their lives!

“Lovely surprise”

Found this by chance, service was excellent and food good quality. The log fire was great on a cold evening. Well worth a visit.

“Sunday Roast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2012

I've been here for the sunday roast. I had the roast beef, workshire pudding and roast potatoes and it was excellent. Also the chocolate brownie was really good. The place is very nice and the staff very kind and helpful. Recommended
