“Amazing food in a beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

Our daughter and son-in-law suggested we go for dinner while we were in England for a visit. I must say they were spot on for a wonderful evening meal. The food was tremendous and the service was spectacular. My daughter and I ordered the plaice and fishcake and my husband and son-in-law had the aged beef steak. The entrees were very tasty and beautifully presented and despite my being sufficiently full, I ordered dessert as well. What ever you do, don't skip out on dessert as that provided a wonderful finishing touch to a lovely dinner experience. I can't wait to go back again. I highly recommend this amazing jewel!!

“Fancy a Michelin starred Sunday roast??”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

A group of 4 of us had sunday lunch here and I was intrigued to see what a 'Michelin starred' Sunday roast would be like.....well, it didn't disappoint!
We were made to feel welcome despite being less than dressed up in our walking clothes after 8miles around Chew Magna.
The pub feels like a pub in the bar area, with seperate dining areas to the sides.
The stone floors do mean that noise can be a bit of an issue and we did find ourselves struggling to hear each other a couple of times.
The dining room has a great view out over the hills and Chew Valley area.
We all had beef, prefectly served medium rare in a lovely thick slice - almost like a steak! The yorkie was lovely and crunchy and the thyme added a subtle flavour. Lots of vegetables, potatoes, carrots, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, parsmips, kale.....all well cooked and seasoned with thought, not just heated and put in a side dish. And of course, tasty gravy!
Pudding.....well it's hard to go wrong with a sticky toffee pudding! It was very good, as was the salted caramel icecream it came with. Compared with the other dessert ordered the presentation was nothing fancy but then, does it need to be? We were warned when we arrived that a couple of desserts were running low and so we reserved a chocolate and peanut butter mouse cake - this was served looking like a high end restaurant dessert and was apparently delicious.
The wine list is good and reasonably priced, and a choice of west country draught bitter on handpumps....4 happy walkers!
Service was friendly and well-timed, and they were happy to discuss the menu. The bill came in just over £100 incl. drinks.
We left discussing when to book our next visit for!

“Great food, great location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

We came here at the end of September for a birthday lunch. The food was good, although one of the starters was a bit of a let down ( literally some peas and an egg in a ramekin, and a very small portion). The staff were friendly and the service was good. Definitely worth a visit

“Boyfriends birthday meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. It was not over priced at all for 2 starters, 2 mains and a dessert and a few drinks came to about £65. If people have a problem spending this i would recommend looking at a menu first before ordering, eating and the complaining. The food was beautiful, staff were always happy to help. The only down side it that its not closer
