My friend and i stayed at the Oakwheel over the easter bank holiday , arriving around 6.30pm on Friday and left around 1020am sunday. Our intention was to have a day in Scarborough and then drive home through Whitby so this b and b seemed to fit the bill for a good location with free parking and a short bus / taxi ride to Scarborough. On arrival the pub was absolutely chocca which is always a good sign and the food looked and smelled delicious. There is no reception as such so we just asked at the bar for our room and the friendly staff saw to us immediately. We were given three keys and shown to our room , the White Fox View room. Very spacious with a lovely view of the rear play park. Large bathroom with shower over the bath that had a sloping floor obviously due to the age of the building. Everything was extremely clean, white absorbent towels, cripsy white bedding and the cream carpet smelled quite new. Tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen tv with freeview , plenty of wardrobe and draw space, alarm clock with ipod dock and lovely and warm. Good start. We were doubtful as to whether there would be room for us to eat however we requested dinner for 7.30 and our table was ready and waiting. Pint of black sheep later and we were ordering from a fabulous sounding menu, lambe shank with veg and chips. Best lamb shank ever. No fat , in a delicious sauce and then it came with a huge tureen of chips and a seperate tureen of boiled pototatoes, carrots and creamed leeks. Fantastic, all for around £13. Too full for a desert but they all sounded wonderful with rasberry cheescake and sticky toffee in the running.
We retired shortly afterwards and were a little concerned that it would be a bit noisy with the pub being full. However we never heard a sound , the bed and pillows so comfy. Up early the next day as breakfast is from 9 - 9.30. Not a lot of scope however it was our plan ot be out and about early. It appeared that all 5 rooms were booked as the breakfast area was full. We had the full breakfast after skipping cereal , bacon , egg, sausage, beans, mushrooms and black pudding with mixed toast and tea/coffee/juice. Delicious. Found a bus timetable in our room ,asked for directions to the stop which was two minutes and away and found ourselves on the 11.08 bus into Scarborough which was £4 each for a day return ticket. Fab, we had a great day wandering the park and beach and shopping area and our ticket allowed a ride on the open top bus which takes you all the way along the sea front. Great value. Around 6pm we went for something to eat at the Scarborough Tandoori near North Marine Road. What a find. Again a busy place with fabulous food. To our dismay the last bus was at 6.20pm so we walked up to the train station to walk our food off and got a taxi back which cost £7.40. Very reasonable. Swift half of black sheep in the busy Oakwheel then Britains Got Talent. ( how to live the high life ) and million pound drop.Another good nights sleep. Again up for early breakfast and then had to be out by 10am .This appears to be a very early chuck out however the staff work very hard keeping the place clean and i've got no doubt the rooms will have been needed again. All in all a great little find for a cheeky weekend away. Couldn't fault the friendliness of the hardworking staff and the food was fantastic. We prefer to go to different places all the time however wouldn't hesitate to return if we are in the area and the business cards will be in the work bait room before long.

Room Tip: White Fox room very quiet with large bathroom

The restaurant food is excellent and the staff polite and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, but a bit noisy due to being above the main door with a window with a faulty clasp. This also meant that the smoke from the smokers outside lingered up and seeped into the room. The breakfast was good quality and tasty, however there was no fruit which we would have preferred as well as the cereal, orange juice and cooked breakfast/toast which was offered. I know that a busy pub needs to do things quickly and efficiently which they did, but maybe a small offering of fruit in the morning could be a possibility in the future? Other than that, we would stay here again and would recommend others to.

My husband & myself stayed at the Oakwheel Inn for two nights 17th & 18th March 2012. We were ready for a break away from the norm after winter. What a lucky find the Oakwheel was. It was warm & welcoming from the start. The staff were pleasant & helpful. Our room ( the superior one ) was nicely decorated & furnished & It had a large bathroom with bath & shower. Although bookings for a meal are not normally taken, residents can reserve. It gets very busy in the evening & we found the reason for this was the excellent, plentiful food that was served. No small portions here. the only regret we have is that we didn't have enough room for a dessert. Breakfast is no different, all you need for a traditional full english. Would recommend this gem to everyone.

Stayed on Saturday 10th March for one night. it is on the main road but as the night draws on the traffic reduces so noise from the road is not an issue.

The room (Punch & Judy) was large and well appointed with full tea & coffee making facilities which was a nice bonus. Very popular pub but you do get the option of reserving a table as part of the check in should you want a meal. We didn't and arrived back after service had ended but were offered a hot option (turned down in favour of pudding which was lush).

Breakfast full English - perfect start to the day.

Landlady and staff were very friendly and accomodating.

Good place to stay if you need a base for the night, a few miles from Scarborough and not to far from Whitby.
