“Idylic cottage for romantic getaway”
Reviewed June 8, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

We have just had a wonderful weekend at this cottage. Cannot recommend it highly enough, from the welcome goodies to the facilities provided in the cottage. Luxurious towels in the bathroom and top quality bed linen.
Close to the Brecon Canal so plenty of walking available and good pubs nearby for food.

“A Lovely Cottage in a beautiful area...”
Reviewed May 22, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

My husband and I just returned home from renting this cottage and it was absolutely wonderful! Hilary has thought of everything to make you feel right at home from the moment you turn the key and walk in. A close walk to the local pub and located in a quiet village, just a short drive or stroll to the canal and the canal walk is so serene. Watch narrow boats, sheep and stone cottages along the way. Would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a home away from home in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Dear Linda, thank you so much for your lovely review of the cottage - and thank you so much for being my first American guests too, that's quite an honour! I have tried to think of everything that I imagine would be helpful when you're away from home and staying somewhere new, but yet I still hope that the cottage does feel like home to guests as well. Thank you so much for choosing Pontganol and please just get in touch if you ever return to Wales! Thanks again, Hilary x

“The Best Christmas So Far!!”

We literally had the best Christmas staying at this stunning cottage.
I initially booked this last summer as I wanted to plan a secret Christmas getaway for my hubby and kids so we could just 'get away from it all' and enjoy a peaceful and happy christmas. We have family nearby so this was the perfect place.
And so it was. Hilary, the owner, did everything to make our stay wonderful. The house was decorated so lovely, special little touches here and there. We had prosecco, biscuits, lots of gorgeous goodies and even treats for our dog! Oh and a Christmas card from the Postie!!!
We were able to arrive a few days early too which was a fab decision. We walked up Llangynidr Mountain and came back to light the fire and crack open a bottle of wine, tea for the boys and munch on the biscuits.
The cottage is so cosy and comfortable. The rooms are gorgeous and the beds ensured we all slept so well. The bath under the skylight is awesome too.
Christmas morning we were woken up by the sound of the local church bell. Around 9! Not full swing but just a single bell ringing. It was something I will always remember. The boys normally wake us too early, not this morning! We had to wake them!
We cannot thank Hilary enough, Im only sorry for not getting round to reviewing this absolutley gorgeous place sooner. Thank you so much for a very memorable Christmas. One that we will always remember. Everything was perfect. Thank you!!!!! Amanda Gary Boys & Lola X

Dear Amanda, Gary the boys and Lola, I'm so delighted to hear that you had a fab Christmas and so pleased that you chose the little cottage to host you. I absolutely love decorating the cottage for Christmas so I'm really pleased that you thought it was lovely. Thank you so much for being such lovely guests, and your beautiful review - I can't believe the boys didn't wake up until 9am on Christmas morning, but I'm so glad you will always remember your stay at the cottage for that reason. Please do just let me know if you'd like to return, you're all more than welcome to stay at any time of the year! Thanks again, Hilary x

My partner and I have just returned from our first 1 week stay at Pontganol cottage. We've previously stayed in numerous holiday cottages, including several in the Brecon Beacon area, and we both agree that Pontganol is a home from home, and fully equipped with everything you need for a week of hiking/biking or just chilling out and relaxing. The owners have thought of everything to make the cottage amenable to couples and families alike with plenty to read/games to play on rainy days, wifi, and bbc iplayer. The location of the cottage is perfect for exploring the Brecon Beacons and within walking distance of the canal so perfect if you enjoy long hikes and biking.
Thank you Hilary, we definitely plan to return.

Apologies for responding to this so long after your stay *red face* but thank you so much for your kind words. It's so lovely to hear when guests have had a great time there, and it was definitely my intention to make the cottage feel right whatever sort of group you travelled with, whether that was families with young children, outdoorsy-types or just those keen to stay in the area. You'll be more than welcome to come back - the cottage would love to see you again! Thanks so much, Hilary x

“5* & Literally 'Home from Home' cottage”
Reviewed August 8, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We had two adults and two boys; 4yr old & 2yr old and had a fantastic time even with the April showers. We stayed for two weeks during the Easter period and was greeted with fresh flowers around the cottage, and a lovely basket of Easter treats for the kids & adults. The kids also loved the gifted sheep bath toys which was a super touch, overall the kind of service you get from a 5* hotel/villa/cottage stay.
As soon as you see the outside and inside of the cottage it was true to the pictures on the website which is rare theses days. unfortunately we had to quickly childproof the place before our kids got too comfy!

Our Tesco driver found the cottage with no issues which was super after a very long 4 hours drive. However i found some of my shopping wasn't required ie. washing up liquid, hand wash, cling film, foil, etc as this cottage is literally a 'home from home' as it was all provided, even the bin bags and dish washer tabs!!!

The decor goes fantastically with the original features, the super cute notes scattered around the cottage are a great touch and an absolute time saver as i don't normally read the welcome folder untill day two!!
I loved the stone floor in the kitchen which had been lovingly restored by the owner & the quirky bathrooms character.
Now i know my boys loved the giant been bags and the lovely garden but us being the big kids had fun with the Wii.
The kids had ample space with the snug and landing area, as well as the outside space come rain or shine, and had the bonus of the old tractor to explore!
The cottage came with a basket of kid friendly activities underneath the stairs ie. colouring, arts & craft materials, various toys which was great but we had already brought along similar items (another reason why 'home from home')
We could not fault the wifi as the kids were happy!
The beds were comfy and options to have feather or regular pillows and duvets was a great touch.

Location was great and central for us to explore the lovely villages nearby, steam railway, castles, the breath taking mountain scenery and the local area was great to explore on foot but best of all we was in the beautiful Beacons National Park! We even had day trips to Swansea, Cardiff, and so much more. Its a super hub to explore Wales!!!

The owners communication with us was fantastic, both before and during our stay. We welcomed her to pop by which was a delight to put a face to a name, but also her knowledge of the history of the cottage was lovely and surprising to hear .

This place will always be special to us as its where our youngest said 'I Love You' for the first time.
This cottage is definitely one that i will be recommending and returning too in the future come rain or shine!

Dear Mika and Zaki (and your parents!),
Thank you so much for your gorgeous review - I'm really touched that you had such a lovely time at the cottage, and so glad that your stay was made even more special by hearing those words from Zaki - amazing! You did so much during your stay, I'll definitely be encouraging guests to explore as far afield as you. I'm so glad I could pop in and see you during your stay and it was so lovely to see you all enjoying the cottage, and pick up some lovely drawings too (thanks Mika and Zaki!). If you ever fancy a break in Wales again, then the cottage (and I) would love to see you!
Thanks again,
Hilary

“The easiest 5 star rating I have ever given”

A lovely cottage full of beautiful homely touches in an incredible area for stunning walking. The cottage was particularly useful for us as there were walking guides and maps galore. Picnic hampers, coffee flasks, access to the vegetable garden and the coffee machine were some of the many many touches that made our stay so welcoming and comfortable.

As my wife has several food allergies, we find that self catering is the safest bet. But the Coach & Horses public house (a nice shortish walk away) was exceptional in being able to cook dishes from scratch and modify them if needs be. The food quality was excellent there too.

As another reviewer put it, we just wish that the cottage was our own home. Loved every minute of our time here.

This is our second time at the cottage. It's wonderful with everything you need and could possibly want, right down to the welcome bubbly and Welsh chocolates. The cottage has been fully refurbished and in spotlessly clean with every amenity you'd expect in a holiday cottage. We'll be back
