Definitely worth seeking out. We have eaten at many places in Cape May and this is one of the best. Food is innovative and delicious. Never felt like we paid too much like many places in Cape May.

This was our 2nd visit to Backstreet and another stellar meal. The grouper rivals any that you could get in the Keys. The peach cobbler is remarkable and large enough for 2. All the fish dinners are superbly prepared, sea bass, salmon, flounder. We don't often repeat restaruants, because there are so much to choose from, however, this restaurant is the exception!

We read a review on trip advisor and all agreed to try it after a bad experience at a "high end" restaurant in Cape May proper. I drove into the parking lot and almost drove away. No kidding, it look like a dive inside and out. Mismatched chairs, cheesy hand drawn art on the walls, but this place is all about the food. A huge blackboard on the wall shows the specials, which far outnumber the regular items on the menue. We started with baked brie with almonds and brown sugar...awesome, chicken carbonara and pasta alfredo, niether swimming in sauce like most restuarants do, lamb, grouper. We finished with blueberry, and peach cobblers. Everything was well prepared at a fair price. The wait staff was very friendly, and the place had a family atmosphere to it. Who needs fancy soroundings and worse food at double the price with food like this? You need reservations because it is small and fills up fast. It is a local favorite for a reason so save some money and try it.

June and I were looking for a place to eat and consulted Cape Map Review. We saw a varied menue and beautiful pictures of the food. We called and made a reservation for 6:30 but arrived at about 6:10. No problem said our host, Gwen. We noticed that it was a small resturant, about 15 tables, all of which were occutied of reserved. The decore was spartin but the staff was unassuming and friendly. The menue was hand written of several large black chalk boards. June and I started our meal with Crab Bisque. It was hot, full of lump crab and delicious! June had lamb chops, there were 8 of them each done to perfection. I had flounder topped with lump crab. I have never seen flounder so thick. It was poached and smouthered with jumbo lump crab and white as snow. Both entrees were served with mixed vegetables that were steamed. All items were prepared while we waited, no fast food here. Before we ordered Gwen advised us that if we wanted their signature dessert which was fresh fruit cobler we needed to order at least 30 minutes advance. It was made from scratch to order. I ordered one for me the fruit was fresh peaches. June was so full from her lamb chops that she couldn't help me with the geneous portion of peach cobler I was served. The pastery portion melted in my mouth. The flavor of peach was everywhere. Boy, was it good! John and June Arndt, Harrisburg, Pa.
