“5 star experience - no doubt!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

This is why its 5 stars. The owner phoned us back, having checked if they could fit us in on a busy night - ended up opening half hour earlier for us (1st star). Friendly service and never, like some restaurants, overpowering (2nd star), Atmosphere & ambience makes you relax and talk: nice background music, good lighting, roomy & comfortable (3rd star). Food - my word - the food: creative starters, beautiful, succulent meat dishes, mouth-watering sweets, all presented in an attractive, professional manner; my father said it was the best food out, he'd had in years and years (4th star). Price - what's going on here? - a fabulous 3 course meal, with drinks - for 8, averaged out at £24.50 each (5th star). We had to ask if they had a michelin star, so satisfying was the experience. We ended up here because our first choice was full - what a stroke of good fortune because next time we have a special occasion, we won't be going anywhere else!

“Could not fault it.”

. We went with friends to the Village Bistro last Saturday and would definitely go back. The Bistro felt cosy with friendly helpful staff and good value food. Apart from the menu there is a specials board. The initial look at the menu seemed a little expensive for a bistro (£27.95 for fillet steak) however only the main course is priced and you do get the starter and sweet in that price. So for four of us with drinks before the meal, a bottle of wine with the meal and coffee to follow it was just over £31 each .Unlike some other restaurants in the area they didn’t add a service charge but they did get a big tip from us and they know we will be back again real soon

“We will be back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

My cousin introduced us to this fantastic restaurant which is a hidden gem. There is no menu in either the window or on line however given the fact it is difficult to get a table speaks for itself. You are guaranteed excellent service and an excellent choice of locally sourced produce. It is tremendous value as you only pay for your main course and the starter and pudding is complimentary/included in the price.
The meal was preceded by some complimentary warm homemade bread and although we all opted for varying starters we all chose the rack of lamb which was accompanied by a shepherds pie topped with sweet potatoes. The side dishes of fresh vegetables, roasties and lardons and duchess potatoes were superb.
The mains were followed by a brandy snap basket filled with red berries, baileys cheese cake and creme caramel which were all fresh.
The staff are both attentive and friendly and make you feel special. If it was not a 320 mile drive we would be there weekly

We went to the bistro for food and my partner is vegetarian and don't eat mushrooms so the prepared a dish for her and she really enjoyed it. The service is excellent to.
