Bank Holiday Monday we thought the place would be mobbed but it was just a nice size crowd on our tour. The Gaoler Patrick was a character and added to the whole experience. Its a pity jails have changed now with TVs etc we might not need so many places and repeat offenders might think twice. Great history to be learned and a reasonable cup of coffe when the tour is over

WOW. The gaol is fascinating, but the staff make this even better! Two actors assumed roles of a gaoler and educator, and delivered their parts of the tour to my partner and I alone, without breaking character, even when we asked questions. Really very impressive.

The gaol has a lot to see. Most cells have an interesting story, which is often delivered by text, exhibits and sometimes an automated recording. There is an mockup ship used to transport prisoners, which is quite impressive.

There is an onsite cafe, which opens ahead of the gaol itself (which opens at 1030), and is run by a lovely lady - it's reasonably priced too.

We really enjoyed ourselves and recommend this 11/10.

This was our second visit having last gone there some years ago with our children when they were younger. We really enjoyed the experience this time as we had the time to visit all the rooms and read the experiences of people who had been held there.
It is not to far a drive for anyone visiting Dublin so you get to see the local countryside and as the goal is situated in Wicklow town as well you can have a walk around the town and nearby harbour while there.
I can only add to the other reviews and say if you get a chance visit.

Decided to visit a Saturday afternoon since it's an easy drive from Dublin and arrived for the 3:30 tour. Our "jailer" guide gave a brief intro and led us down into the gaol. He was very entertaining and we got a surprise in the schoolroom. We then had plenty of time to self guide the many rooms and displays across 3 floors including the dungeon. All in all and enjoyable and informative outing.
