“Accomodating, friendly & comfortable”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

I visited Whitford with two friends for a girlie catch-up. It was the perfect choice for us to have a relaxed time together away from the hum drum of our busy lives. I had asked for a room to accommodate the 3 of us and was assured at reservation that this would be no problem. The day before we were due, we got a call from the hotel telling me they had a room with two doubles and wanted to check if we would prefer an extra single in the room (which they said might be a bit tight) or share the two doubles. I opted for the extra bed but when we arrived they accommodated us in a gorgeous bright room in which they had placed 3 single beds- we were delighted! The room was very spacious and had a nice walk out terrace with a picnic bench that we could sit out at to enjoy the mild evening. We rang down twice to reception for extra towels and to report a faulty hairdryer and it was no problem- they swiftly responded with a new hairdryer and plenty of towels for us. The beds themselves were good quality and we all slept well. We never once heard any outside noise or any door banging which we agreed is the most annoying thing likely to wake you in a hotel- obviously the hinges had been attended to which is a nice bonus.
We had lunch from their bar menu and there was a better than usual selection with not so typical dishes. What we chose was tasty and reasonably priced. The service in the bar was helpful and friendly. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and again we all enjoyed our choices. The only criticism for me as a vegetarian was that one of the two veggie starters was a brie parcel and the only main for veggies was a brie tartlet, so they might want to vary their ingredients a little, however I opted for an unusual Summer sorbet and was not disappointed. There were also quite a lot of seafood options. The tartlet coincidentally was delicious and my friends enjoyed both a prawn main and steak main. The deserts were inventive and used lovely seasonal local fruit in their dishes(rhubarb terrine with crème anglaise, almond pavlova with Wexford strawberries, chocolate panna cotta with dark cherries). The wine selection was reasonable.
Breakfast included hot and cold buffet choices and some lovely offerings including Belgian waffles with strawberries and maple syrup, the full Irish, vegetarian cook up, porridge with whiskey cream etc. Service was again friendly and flawless.
The evening entertainment seemed to pull a crowd in and we noticed a free weekend taxi service within a 4 mile radius which we thought was an excellent idea. We felt the entertainment was geared towards 55 + age group but we still enjoyed our evening.
They have quite a nice swimming pool with Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna and exceptionally good humoured and helpful staff who showed a great measure of patience with us when we couldn't unlock our locker and couldn't find change to get swim hats etc.
Overall, this hotel is very close to a roundabout off a busy road, but it is a very comfortable and beautifully decorated. We really had a great stay made all the better for the genuinely lovely and friendly staff here who all seemed to be local which I must say is nice to see. From reception to bar staff, restaurant to leisure centre- we were treated very nicely and with a bit of humour and good will thrown in. I would recommend it for all sorts of travellers from families to girlie nights to seniors and couples- it is good enough for anyone to enjoy. Well done Whitford- we will be back at some stage!

Room Tip: Room 136 was a spacious ground level room away from the bar area with a nice terrace to sit out at.

I stayed here with my partner for a romantic break. We got a very good rate and a wonderful room. The staff were warm and genuine and could not do enough for us. We were very lucky we had the car with us as the hotel is out of the way just off the main road. While the location is not great everything else is. The food in the bar was fab, as was the breakfast: waffles to die for! The Afternoon Tea was good. I'd recommend the Whitford more for families who have a car and want a friendly practical hotel. If you're looking for a picturesque romantic break its not ideal.

I stayed here one night on a business trip. Service at check-in was notably good with the receptionist providing all relevant information including explaining there might be noise from a bbq event which would finish at 10. In the event, there was no noise.

Room was a good size and had a chain on the door which I welcomed. Security in a hotel is my top priority and means I will choose this hotel whenever I stay in the Wexford area. My room had a fully enclosed outdoor area accessible through a patio door. I expect the view was once parts of the roof and walls - I was impressed by this imaginative solution.

Breakfast was great, a big choice.

Only negatives are wifi was weak and I could hear corridor noise.

We recently had a family break in the Whitford hotel. From the first enquiry I made to when we checked out everything was made so easy for us. The staff were excellent. Restaurant food was so good as was the bar food and even though we had a couple of the family with varying food allergies each and everyone was catered too. Beautiful and spa and playground for the children. We loved every minute of it and will definitely be back soon.

We stayed in a Superior room for 6 nights, whilst visiting relatives and attending a family wedding in and around Wexford. The room, food, service and staff, and value for money were excellent. Made the whole trip, from London, really special. We will be back!!

Room Tip: 1st floor superior room (room129), on opposite side to main car park was very quite and peaceful

Excellent service, staff are wonderful. Superior rooms are the best for families, enclosed private patio area off the room, which meant mammy and daddy could sit out side after kids had gone asleep. Great little playground for the kids too. Restaurant food was delicious and they had pictures and colours for d kids, a first for a very fancy restaurant .
