“Great value mid-week stay”
Reviewed May 24, 2009

Myself and my partner decided to stay in Talbot as a Birthday treat and to do a little shopping while there. We stayed Wednesday and Thursday night. Our stay was trouble free and relaxing from check in til check out. On the first night, we ate in the hotel restaurant, which was part of our midweek packgage. The restaurant was fairly quiet but the food and service was excellent. On the second evening, after a long day of shopping, we decided to just eat in the hotel bar. The menu was excellent(highly recommend the steak). There was a great buzz in the bar that night with some locals and guests all enjoying the atmosphere. The next morning we asked for an extended check out(due to late night in bar the night before) The staff were more than helpful. We also treated ourselves to breakfast in bed on the friday morning! After checking out, we noticed there was a red carpet outside and chmpagne etc set up in the lobby. Staff told us there was a wedding arriving. We decided to stay on and have afternoon tea and watch the happy couple arriving from the comfort of the lobby. I loved looking at all the style at the wedding!! The afternoon tea was absolutely fab!!! We were expecting very little, but we were pleasantly surprised- three tiers of delicious treats that looked almost too good to eat. Sandwiches, salmon and brown bread, fresh cream buns, strawberries and warm scones with jam and cream. Heaven!!! This was excellent value too. The waitress made us feel very special by giving our table a crisp white linen table cloth to enjoy it on! Overall, Wexford is a lovely town and the Talbot is a great place to stay while visiting.

Was working in Wexford found a good rate with this hotel. Two of us travelling was in ideal location for our office and close enought o the town for a walk round. Good food in Restaurant, great views, friendly staff, reasonable prices. Would have no hesitation recommending this place.

We stayed here with four friends for a weekend away, and as three couples not one of us could find fault. From check-in, to the rooms, from the staff to Management, everyone we met were very pleasant. The meal we had on Saturday night was beautiful, and served in lovely a lovely restaurant. Oh, and we all enjoy a drink or two ;-) so the residents bar was an added bonus too! All in all, a lovely place to stay, although we would have liked a view of the Sea, but that's nobodys fault. The Car Park was also very handy, and free.

I've been going to the Talbot Hotel on and off for over 30 years, and over the past 2 years
I have been every 6 weeks or so. Sometimes to stay, but more often to eat. This is partly to do with location, but more from nostalgia. A few years ago before it was modernised, the Talbot had a great, cheap and cheerful "Grill Room" where excellent steaks could be had. The rooms are OK, the ones at the front of the hotel afford excellent views. I often eat in the evenings at the hotel's "Ballast Bar". A huge bar with many tables for eating. It's a great place for people watching, the bar food is ok if a little pricey, and the Guinness is good. There's great entertainment to be had from the different crowds who go especially on Fridays and Saturdays, and from a fantastically grumpy East-European waitress. I think the Talbot has slid a bit recently. In their reception they have a number of large clocks on the wall showing the times in different world cities. Every single one is wrong! That sums the place up. If you want real a real 4 (or 5) star hotel, try Whites at the other end of the town. A much better hotel but without the ramshackle charm of the Talbot.

we stayed in The Talbot for one night and were very unhappy with the hotel. It's a great pity as the location is wonderful but the rooms are incredibly dated and shabby akin to a 70's bed and breakfast. The entire hotel needs to be redecorated - carpets are filthy - paint peeling off walls etc!! Our room was supposedly a double but it consisted of two twin beds pushed together and they were exceptionally uncomfortable. We were shocked to see breakfast trays littering the hallways at 4.30pm in the evening and dirty linen and towels left on sofas in the upstairs hallways. I would never stay there again!!

We stayed in the Talbot hotel twice in a week on our way to and from Cork. It is very conveniently located for the port at Rosslare.

Reception staff are friendly, the bar is nice, although the service is not the quickest seemingly due to a lack of staff. Bar food is good, both in terms of choice and quality.

On our first stay we had rooms on the first floor. These rooms were nothing special but perfectly ok.

However when we returned to the hotel a few days later we were given rooms on the 5th floor. These rooms were poor. Old decor and furnishings, a shower with so little water pressure you couldn't rinse off properly and two single beds pushed together to make a double.

On the second visit we had to leave early to catch a ferry. Breakfast is advertised as starting at 7.00, but it's not easy to find staff to serve you quickly at this time and there does not appear to be any sense of urgency.

We also paid the bill before 7.00am and were overcharged. This could not be sorted out by the night porters (not their fault) and the person who should have been at work from 7.00 to deal with this didn't turn up until nearly 7.15. Once they arrived it was sorted out swiftly.

Based on the last night I don't think I would choose to stay here again unless I see comments on Trip Advisor suggesting the rooms have been improved.

Recently enjoyed The Talbot, in Wexford, with friends on a special offer deal.
From initial reception to departure, we were VERY impressed with the smiling, caring service, of ALL the staff we came into contact with, from Charmaine on the desk, through to bar and restaurant staff, and even the room service girls. Quite outstanding.
