“A ruined castle in a decrepit harbour”
Reviewed June 25, 2014

Slade castle is only a ruin and isn't open to the public. Slade harbour is only marginally better - a small decrepit harbour with little activity. If you're passing on the way to the Hook its worth the short detour but don't go specially to see it.

“Not Spectacular”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

Worth a very short side trip if visiting the Hook lighthouse but don't make a special visit to see it.

“Took a wrong turn, found this!”
Reviewed May 31, 2014 via mobile

Nice little place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of touristy places. Locals kind of look at ya funny, but the old castle is a nice sight. Was locked up when we were around, however like others, I've heard you can obtain a key from a local farmer.
Clean bathrooms near the water as well for those who need them.
No other amenities in the hamlet though.

“Exceptionally picturesque”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

We didn't have the opportunity to go inside the castle - you get a key from a neighbouring house - but the fine castle by the charming harbour with cliff walks nearby make for a delightful excursion.

“A hidden gem”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Don't miss this little modern day fishing village with the remains of a Norman castle. You can actually walk from the Hook Head lighthouse along the cliffs and seashhore all the way to the Slade Castle.
