“An amazing display of needlework, creativity & patience”

The tapestries are beautiful and the volunteers highly skilled. Very interesting to hear the story being told in each tapestry and look at the needlework. Just makes you think of the hours, days, years (!) of effort in each.

“Magic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

This is a must-see terrific exhibition. It is better than other tapestry exhibitions I've seen, such as in Angers, in France. You need at least 1 hour to see the 12 tapestries already completed with 4 to go. I look forward to going back when the next one is finished, probably at christmas. Fiona, the woman in charge, is very knowledgeable and helpful.

“Bow down Bayeux! You have a rival!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2012

This is a very fine series of tapestry panels worked over a long period of time by various groups of dedicated Stitchers and depicting very vividly the history of New Ross and also incorporating much of Ireland's history in the process. While the story is vividly told the actual execution of the various scenes is remarkably done and is a tribute to modern day stichery techniques and the ladies who have mastered them. Go and enjoy! Its just acros the road from the dunbrody ship.

“This is a real find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2011

The folks at the Ros Tapestry center are on to something cool! Inside this small building near the Quay in New Ross, is the most delightful exhibition of historical panels. With respect to the story tapestries of old, these 4 by 6 foot panels tell the story of the history of south eastern Ireland, County Wexford, and the town of New Ross. Using crewel embroidery as their medium, hundreds of crafters work together to create magnificent works of art. They use a myriad of colors and many different stitches to depict various historical scenes. There will be 15 scenes in all when completed. In the front room of the building, you can observe a panel in the progress of being stitched. In back gallery, the completed panels are shown. A nice audio guide tells about the historical figures in each scene and explains what is happening. For people who appreciate craft as an art form, the exhibition is breathtaking. We enjoyed this more than we ever thought we would.
