“DO NOT STAY HERE!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2009

The music from the nightclub can be heard throughout the hotel until at least 3am. I came here for a night away and ended up having a horrible time. The food was average at best and the noise of the music, people screaming and shouting and chairs being moved kept us awake until after 3am.
It's a nightclub with bedrooms. DO NOT STAY HERE.

This hotel would be perfect for a stay in southeast Ireland if not for the fact that the bar/kitchen is built directly above the guest rooms. The bar closes at 2AM so there was constant furniture scraping and door slamming until well after 3AM making it nearly impossible to sleep. Perhaps this would be a good place to stay Sunday night-Thursday night, but for the weekend, I would avoid it at all costs.

More hotels in Ireland should learn from Portovino!!
Paid €89 B&B for a super room overlooking the river. Room was very spacious and spotless. Had everything we needed in the room.
Hotel is top class, very trendy. Food was delicious. Every member of staff was friendly and very helpful.
New Ross it's self isnt great, not much happening but if you're just looking for a relaxing break Portovino is the spot. Will be back!

Beautiful Hotel overlooking the River Barrow. Meals delightful, lovely big veranda for outdoor drinks enjoyed in the summer.

Downside was most workers being Polish, thus the language barrier causing problems even when ordering basic drinks/food.

Other than this staff was friendly and hotel very comfortable. Music on flat screen tv's in the bar area too, which was entertaining for myself and my family.

Thank you for an enjoyable time.

I found this hotel on Tripadvisor whilst looking for a hotel to stay in New Ross for a family party and the previous review made it sound perfect.
I couldn't agree with the reviewer more. This brand new hotel offers everything that you want from a boutique hotel, and more. The rooms are spacious, with plasma TV screens, with every channel you could want, there was a decent Tea/ coffee tray, with mugs rather than piddley tea cups, LOADS of wardrobe space, with plently of mirrors, and also an iron and ironing board in the room. The bed is a huge King Size, my husband said that it was almost as comfortable as our bed at home!
There are plently of areas to sit, along with a dressing table / desk, and a table with 2 chairs (handy for when you order room service!). The bathrooms were lovely, large powerful power showers, double sinks, and lovely toiletries.
As for the food, well this is a restaurant, bar and hotel. And they definitely got it right on the restaurant side. The food is fresh and really well cooked and presented. There is a great choice, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and when ordering room service, they will make you up whatever you want, even if its not on the menu!
At nightime over the weekend Portovino becomes New Ross's number 1 bar / disco. Do not let that put you off! On the one night that we were home while the bar was still open, it was loud, busy, and jumping. But as soon as the lift doors closed to go downstairs to the rooms the noise just disappeared!
I would recommend this hotel to everyone, it is young, fresh, and clean. The staff are friendly and bend over backwards for you, I will definitely be coming back!
One last point, if you get a chance whilst staying at the Portovino, sit on the balcony one evening with a glass of wine a watch the sunset over the river, it makes you never want to come home.

Portovino is a new hotel situated beside the River Barrow.

I usually stay in another hotel in New Ross, however decided to stay here when I read about it in a local publication. The building is a striking stone building overlooking the river. The rooms are lovely and the staff have a buzz about them.

I ate in the bar and enjoyed the table service. The food was excellent and good value for what I got. My room had a serious Plazma tv and a view over the river. Well done Portovino!
