“A charm of the South East”
Reviewed August 9, 2009

As a very frequent visitor(at least twice a year for the past 5 years) to the Brandon House, we returned yet again for another very enjoyable stay. From the time you arrive at the hotel, you see familar faces still wroking there and they make you feel very much 'at home. Very safe for children as it is located off the main road
It is a very central location (20 minutes from Waterford and 15 from Wexford) Must recommend a visit to the Hook lighthouse.

Rooms are very comfortable with Tea/Coffee making facilities / Iron board / flat screen TV
Surprised when we went for carvery to be told that for each adults meal, the childrens meals were free. Bar food is very tasty with a good choice. 'The Gallery'Restaurant is a very enjoyable, very well presented, very very tasty, eating experience. When we were there, childrens activities ran from 9.00am until 11:30pm. Kids thoroughly enjoyed this and cannot wait to go back.

Full credit to Betty-Marie and all her staff for making our stay so enjoyable and we cannot wait to return to the Brandon House again.

Have stayed at the Brandon a few times on business. There's good and bad about it it but generally I've enjoyed staying there. The staff are very efficient and always very friendly. The rooms are reasonably good without setting the world on fire... always kept very clean, comfortable beds but the tuning of TV stations can be a bit random! Great leisure centre. I can't comment on the restaraunt as I've never eaten in there. The bar food is pretty average though. The quality isn't bad but it's very old fashioned, smae old menu all the time and the specials would remind you of lunch at your granny's house! In saying that I'd give the bar staff 10/10 for service and general friendliness. On the food front the breakfast is the high point - a great buffet served in the restaraunt which is spacious and comfortable. All in all it's a comfortable, friendly spot. I'd regard it as a good 3 star hotel. Prices are average enough - maybe a few euros more than you'd expect but there isn't much competition in the area. New Ross isn't the most exciting of towns by any stretch of the imagination but the Hook peninsula is nearby and that is a really cracking spot to visit. All in all worth a look.

Would recommend this hotel. The staff were very professional, especially the restaurant and bar staff. Our room was lovely, very clean and the bathroom was spotless. We found the meals were very good, served in a fabulous restaurant. The breakfasts were great also. We went to the Spa, where we were greeted and treated by skilled and professional staff. Really enjoyed our stay in the Brandon, would definitely go back again and would recommend it to anyone.

This hotel has a lovely location but is not without its failings. Beautiful room beautiful interior and the grounds are pretty. However on our arrival the receptionist was rude and the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night much to everybodies annoyance. We were told that we had to pay the full amount on arrival which we felt was a little strange. However this is a classy hotel and has a charm that would bring me back to visit this town again.

I'm very susprised at some of the bad reviews this hotel has gotten. I know everyone has different taste and thats what makes us all unique but this hotel is definatly a great place to stay. The Brandon is a beautiful country house, the staff are excellent & the new spa is top class. We have stayed here several times & never been disappointed. The resturant serves great food & has a lovely atmosphere. For more casual dining the bar food is equaly as good. We love this hotel so much that we had our wedding reception there a year ago even though we live more than 50 miles away! Cannot recommended enough for families and couples. According to my husband they do the best pint of Guinness and there is entertainment in the bar most weekends. All our friends and family equaly love this hotel and several have made return trips since our wedding. If you like a country experience apposed to modern city type hotels you will love the Brandon house.

This hotel is advertised as a four star hotel. Our room was so dated that maybe it was four star in the 1970's but not today. It was shabby with marks on the wall, painted old wooden dressing table that smelled so bad we couldn't put anything in it and graffiti on one of the kids' beds. The bathroom had an unfinished edge on sink unit that, with small children wasn't great. The bathroom was small and shabby too with paint on the tiles. There wasn't even a box of tissues in the bathroom or face cloths either.

The food in the restaurant is very limited and old fashioned. We ate in the bar that evening as an evening meal was included in the weekend deal we had gotten. There was, at least, more choice in the bar but the quality, again, wasn't great and was very dated. The terms we had gotten on our weekend deal through a booking website was different than the hotel would give us when we were there even though we gave them the details in our booking email. The breakfast if very limited as well. If you want a fry-up and only that then you will be ok but it isn't what I would think should be available for a so called 4 star hotel.

The swimming pool, again was very dated and didn't seem very clean. The changing facilities was awful and staff asked for a 10 euro deposit to get a lock for the presses in the changing rooms as there were no locks on their "lockers" even though we were resident in the hotel. The swimming pool is open to people in the town also and at certain times of the day it seems to be over full of kids from the surrounding areas.

We didn't find the staff friendly or helpful. The staff on reception sometimes would give information and sometimes they wouldn't and gave different information to different guest as they checked in.

It has to be said that this hotel has set the bar for every other hotel in the country to reach. It was the most pleasant stay I have ever had in an Irish hotel. The staff, each and everyone of them are top notch, so friendly and exceptionally helpful. The Brandon House Hotel demonstrated everything that is so wonderful about Irish hospitality. I couldn't speak more highly of an establishment. Our banks and politicians could do with taking a leave out of their book on how to run a sucessful business!!! Looking forward to a return visit in the near future.
