This is a brilliant and educational experience not to be missed. It is especially interesting for children with live actors giving a real life and first hand experience of the famine ship and it's devastating effect on Irish society. The actors are mesmerising and very generous with their time. Our guide was very enthused about the subject. The cafe is great value and offers superb food for fussy kids. The JFK experience is a good side attraction

This stop on our coach tour was another good one. There is a guided tour of the replica of the "Dunbrody" famine ship which transported Irish emigrants to the US during the famine years. The entry fee was paid as a part of our tour. The guided tour provided a short video describing passage on the ship from Ireland to the US. The tour then proceeded to access on the ship, both above deck, and below to where the berthing was located. A short skit with emigrant characters ensued and we were encouraged to ask questions topical to the famine and emigration.

I didn't get to see the reenactment, would have enjoyed that. But this is a authentic reproduction of an 1840 emigrant vessel. Also called "The Coffin Ship" since so many never made it. The Dunbrody Famine Ship provides a unique insight into the bravery and fortitude with which the Irish people faced up to a desperate situation. The Atlantic crossing was a terrible trial for those brave or desperate enough to attempt it. Packed below decks, the steerage passengers barely saw the light of day. Allowed up on deck for no more than one hour a day in small groups. Hygiene was poor with nothing more than buckets for toilets only sea water to wash with disease was rampant. Cholera and Typhus accounted for a great many deaths. Those who died were buried at sea. After weeks cooped up in these terrible conditions, Irish emigrants arrived in North America. many were filthy, penniless, and often illiterate. In front of the ship is a Eternal Flame for those lives that were lost.

Very informative and amazing what these people would have endured on their journey for a new life. Very entertaining with the actors playing the parts of the passengers that would have been on the ship. I would definitely recommend seeing this exhibit.

this exhibition showed you what hurdles the immigrants faced. the presentation was informative and entertaining. The actual visual display of what people endured to find a better life for themselves and their families was stunning . I would have liked to have been able to research passenger lists but according to Peter there are none to Canada.
