I stayed here for 3 nights, overall it wasn't too bad but the rooms are very tired and badly decorated. My room was huge, which was nice but the remote for the TV wouldn't work from the bed because it was too far away! I had no problems with heating and the windows opened. The mattress was very lopsided, which was a bit annoying! I liked the bar, it has obviously been redecorated quite recently, unlike the restaurant, which is really quite hideous! The food was average. The staff were nice. The best thing is the spa- its brand new with a steam room and a sauna and a nice pool with jacuzzi. If you need to stay in this area, I think its not too bad a place and the shops at hedge end (M&S etc) are very close.

We stayed there for one night, which was the only bonus.
The room was very tired and very hot. Which talking to other people was better than theres. At least we could open our window to cool the room down. They had no heating and no way of warming there room up.
For a 4 star hotel the service was the worst i have ever had. The breakfast was a joke. After being told its your fault "you have to wait you came down at the busiest time". Felt like a Fawlty Towers moment. The restaurant was not even a third full. So about 12 of us had to sit and wait to be seated. Which took between 30-45 mins. And watching the staff "so called" setting the tables was a joke. They didn't even know where to put the knives and forks. After another 30 mins wait for the cold fried breakfast. Of which this wasn't a full english. They then brought out a bowl of cold beans. By the time we asked for some warm food another 30 mins had gone by and we walked out.
By this time it was time to talk to the manager. There seemed to be abit of a gathering of people all doing the same thing.
And to add insult to injury (if thats possible) i have still yet to receive a call from the general manager.
All i can say is 4 star... THEY ARE JOKING!!!!

I stayed here on sunday 22nd September with my husband following a few days touring Hampshire. This was our last night away, and thank goodness it was only for one night.

The room was so hot we needed to open the sash windows. We managed to keep one open propped up with a glass water botte. The bed throw was torn, the blanket was stained and the matress had very little support. The bedside light did not have a bulb in it, we had a message of the phone but we could not find any instruction on how to retrieve it. We have no hot water in the morning, but this did not bother us too much as we went to the spa, which is the hotels crowning glory. My husband did have to shave with cold water thought.

Breakfast was lacking in choice considering the amount of stars this hotel has been awarded. No choice of herbal teas, only a poor choice of cereals and the cooked breakfast took so long in coming we were had all but given up. Goodness knows how long we would have waited if they had been busy.

We did pay a discounted rate for the room, but this does not excuse the state of the room and very slow service we received. Spa is great but not enough to make us want to return.

Me heart sank on arrival to discover there was a large wedding party & a large
birthday bash taking place at the same time each of which had use of a large
function room & the main restaurant but in practice the hotel was big enough for
small groups not to be overwhelmed

The room I stayed in was a touch late 80s featuring a bizarre TV facing away
from the beds but was OK & clean enough (but perhaps not to the extent that
you'd eat yer brekkie off the bathroom floor . The beds were firm & comfortable
& a good nights sleep was had

There are decent grounds &a pleasingly untidy pair of small lakes to walk round
(loved the blackberries on the bushes) & a comfy enough outdoor area for drinks
though you are pretty close to the motorway so can hear background traffic & you
know you are located in the middle of an industrial park (more or less hidden by
bushes) so you don't really think you are in a country house

Because the main restaurant was being used for a party the evening meal was
served in a slightly smaller & smart enough room (again a bit Georgian via 1980s
styling) though I was sat facing a standard glass door through which I could see
(but not hear) riff raff getting slaughtered in the adjoining bar.The main
disadvantage being was that the kitchen was way down a corridor but fairs fair
the food was still hot & tasty on arrival & though a true foodie critic might
say the menu was a bit pedestriain I enjoyed it & thought it good value. The
service was friendly & enthusiastic but I thought the staff probably lacked
experience or training.

I didn't think the buffet breakfast was very good though- limited choice of cold
items placed in mysteriously small bowls dotted around a huge table..Most
people seemed to go for the cooked fry up & to be fair this looked pretty good
if you like that sort of thing. Overall I thought the restaurant & breakfast
were let down by the dreadful coffee- the evening meal coffee was sent back &
the waiter said that happened a lot- so why nothing has been done about this I
find strange when you could make a perfectly acceptable Nescafe from your room
tray.

I did hear a couple complaiming loudly about the difficulty of accessing the
disabled facility room- seems you enter through a firedoor from outside the
building which required said door to be open from the inside. A bit frustrating
when its raining hard (after all it was August) & the door was shut

But for me, in total, worth a premium price & yes I would reccomend. For large
functions it looks a pretty good option I'd say

My wife and I stayed here over the bank holiday weekend and what a mistake. Firstly, the hotel had two weddings on and thus all the main facilities were unavailable and no allowances were made for other guests. No mention of this was made when booking. We then had to move rooms due to damp in the first and both rooms were small and poorly decorated. There was damp on the walls in the corridor and in outlook it was pretty much the same as a budget hotel like a travelodge. I was quite shocked at the poor quality in a hotel at that price with a 4 star rating.

The breakfast was quite frankly inedible! The staff in the dining room were out of their depth, the plates were all covered in dried food as they had not been washed properly since the night before.

The one shining light is the Spa - what a fantastic place. The girls are really super and the prices quite reasonable. What it is doing attached to such a horrid hotel I do not know!

I took my daughter here before the Uni of Southampton Open Day and we had a brilliant stay. The room was big; the service on reception was outstanding [thank you Natalie for the directions and map to Pizza Express]. The spa is brilliant. Lovely pool and jacuzzi with complimentary toiletries.
OK, what are the downsides to make this review balanced? Turn the heating down – we had to sleep with the windows open, make that booked alarm call – ours did not happen, speed up breakfast, and when there are so few eating, why was the food looking as though it had sat under a hot light for ages? The beans were dried out. Egg hard.
We paid a good rate [£86 for 2, BB] with expedia and we enjoyed the stay so much we would be happy to go again. In fact we recommended it to other parents at the open day.

On arrival the hotel seemed ideal for the weekend break that we had planned. The check in staff were friendly and the hotel was clean and the room was nice.
However the service for the evening meal was abysmal, and the cooked breakfast in the morning was cold!!
The Spa was ok but for the price i expected far more.
Another review mentioned Fawlty Towers and i concur totally with that!!
Definately would not book again!
