My friend took me here for a spa day using a travel zoo voucher. The Hotel itself is very dated & could do with a huge makeover but the spa is totally separate & the complete opposite. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we walked through the door & this continued all day. The decor in the spa is perfect for relaxing. The pool, jacuzzi, steam room & sauna were all great & clean as was the whole spa. The jacuzzi was ideal to relax in while looking out onto the hotels gardens. The best part of the day was the treatments, we both had the hot stone massage & a facial. These were pure bliss & the therapists were fantastic, professional & clearly knew their jobs. The relaxation area was fab but spend too long in here you will sleep. We had lunch in the hotel bar which was fine but we were glad to return to the spa. Don't let the appearance of the hotel put you off the spa because they are very different. We will definitely return to this spa & recommend it to others.

Ok , just to say first it was the dreaded Groupon voucher and actually for what we paid £65 each they can't have made a profit....but if I had paid flu price to stay I would have been a little bit horrified!

It looks nice as you drive up past the two huge Highland cattle bulls and then as you ding dong the bell at reception your experience starts!

Our rooms were spacious but DATED and SMELT REALLY BADLY OF DAMP? We think it was damp but even with the windows opened from the time we arrived the stink did not dissipate.

Bed very soft and room stayed too hot, bathroom ok but grouting needs doing, cracks in the bath are not attractive and a few cheap toiletries.

Decor is bizarre, stripes on some walls , chintzy drapes around beds, and floral walls....clashing with patterned satined carpets...

We informed reception of the smell in the room, and the strange young man said"I am real real real sorry....I will take it out of action" ????

The cream tea in the bar was a plate of dry cakes and dry flat scones with tea in stainless steel pots and stained cups....but we had a giggle with the Portugese waiter....

Our meal in the dining room, which is a huge room with a greta skylight but is again let down by plastic flowers, dusty green chandeliers, and plastic grey cutlery trays on steel trolleys? Again dirty cups and cutlery and the food read well on the menu but was only just acceptable when it arrived....but we had a giggle after two bottles of good Merlot.

Breakfast much the same with a waitress scraping our dirty plates whist still standing by our table and then having a loud coughing fit again right next to our table....?Once agin ,much giggling and chatter between us so we laughed it off.

And thank goodness the spa is new and suited us well...quiet , and calming and a lovely view out to the woods.....so two trips there and the offer was there for us to use after checkout.

Room Tip: Our room looked out over the lake.number 33 but smelt of damp

If you enjoy the Premier Holiday Lodge hotel experience then steer well clear of the Botleigh Grange Hotel. If however you enjoy the experience of staying in an old country house with all its foibles this hotel will delight you. Yes floorboards creak, yes the carpet is frayed in places and it doesn't take a super-sleuth to find a piece of peeling paint but then again I creak and am frayed in places and I'm half the age of this building. It is my third stay here and I'll be back for more. The staff are a delight and the youngsters running the bar clearly know what they are doing.

There are negatives, asking twice to have my radiator fixed is once too many but then why didn't Housekeeping spot it when they made up my room. Similarly why didn't Housekeeping spot a light bulb was out, or the kettle wasn't PAT tested or the shower control was filthy? Sort the supervision of your Housekeepers out and I'd give a 5-star in a heartbeat.

Finally whoever has decided that jazz accompanied by some caterwauling diva scratching along is appropriate background music to breakfast should be taken outside, put against a wall and shot, preferably in front of their family and Jeremy Clarkson. Muzak at breakfast really is not necessary.

I was surprised for my birthday and my boyfriend booked this hotel thinking it would be a charming 4 star hotel, however as soon as we arrived we noticed the peeling paint all over the outside of the hotel and brown marks. People smoking outside the entrance was also a nice welcome, we checked in and our first room had a broken bed! the bottom end almost collapsed completely half way when you put any weight on it, we then asked to switch rooms and although this room had a four poster bed it had a huge rip in the stained sofa, sellotape on the bedframe and the electric heaters smelt like they were about to blow up.

To our dissapointment the hotel was way below parr, and most certainly NOT a 4 star. We checked out and requested a refund. The manager was helpful but openly admitted it was not 4 star standard!

We drove to farnborough, to the Aviator hotel which was superb and most definately 4/5 star. Luckily they had a last minute room and my birthday was great!

The management at the botley grange really need to up their standards, I do not recommend!!!

Having enjoyed our stay at the hotel for the 2011/12 New Year, we decided to do the same again this year and were not disappointed. The staff and the food were excellent and the new owner went out of his way to personally see that our stay went as smoothly as possible. The hotel is certainly in need of of a lot of updating as indicated by other guests but the new owner assured us that this work is about to start with the rooms being a high priority. The hotel has a wealth of character in the public areas and he assured us this will be largely preserved. The location is great and we hope that new life can be injected into a hotel that deserves success.

I did a detailed review of this place over the summer...but it appears to have disappeared. Not sure why as it was generally positive.

I needed to stay in Hedge End to be close to a Holiday Inn Express where colleagues were staying (it was full). As the other reviewer said, this is an older property that is in that well worn sort of class of English converted mansion type places. It is a bit old fashioned and a little worse for wear, but I honestly preferred it to the HI Express. Bed was comfy, room was huge, bathroom was huge (with a tiny sink/vanity...go figure) with a big bathtub. Reception was very friendly and breakfast was just fine. If the price is lower than others in the area you will be doing just fine. I did not have the opportunity, but the spa area looked really nice.. The grounds were really lovely

Had a two-night Christmas package at the hotel, taking my mother-in-law with us. We both had extremely pleasant rooms at the back of the hotel with a good view of the grounds. Both rooms and all communal areas were very clean and comfortable. It's fair to say that this is not a swish, modern hotel with all facilities - it's a grand old building which has been adapted and altered over the decades and retains lots of character. It's fair to say that some of the decor is tired, but the overall ambience and the quality of service far outweighed any shabbiness. The hotel was decked out with lots of attractive Christmas decorations and the service was faultless. Perhaps best of all was the food, from the sumptuous tea served on our arrival to the excellent meals at lunch and dinner. Breakfast was the best we've had in a long time - the fresh fruit salad and the freshly baked patisserie were top highlights and no grumbles at all about the generous cooked offerings! It's not cheap, but we felt that the package represented good value and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: We had room 9, which is a suite with a raised seating area and small study area. It's a large r...
