Botleigh Grange Hotel
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Hedge End
Reviewed January 4, 2013

I did a detailed review of this place over the summer...but it appears to have disappeared. Not sure why as it was generally positive.

I needed to stay in Hedge End to be close to a Holiday Inn Express where colleagues were staying (it was full). As the other reviewer said, this is an older property that is in that well worn sort of class of English converted mansion type places. It is a bit old fashioned and a little worse for wear, but I honestly preferred it to the HI Express. Bed was comfy, room was huge, bathroom was huge (with a tiny sink/vanity...go figure) with a big bathtub. Reception was very friendly and breakfast was just fine. If the price is lower than others in the area you will be doing just fine. I did not have the opportunity, but the spa area looked really nice.. The grounds were really lovely

Had a two-night Christmas package at the hotel, taking my mother-in-law with us. We both had extremely pleasant rooms at the back of the hotel with a good view of the grounds. Both rooms and all communal areas were very clean and comfortable. It's fair to say that this is not a swish, modern hotel with all facilities - it's a grand old building which has been adapted and altered over the decades and retains lots of character. It's fair to say that some of the decor is tired, but the overall ambience and the quality of service far outweighed any shabbiness. The hotel was decked out with lots of attractive Christmas decorations and the service was faultless. Perhaps best of all was the food, from the sumptuous tea served on our arrival to the excellent meals at lunch and dinner. Breakfast was the best we've had in a long time - the fresh fruit salad and the freshly baked patisserie were top highlights and no grumbles at all about the generous cooked offerings! It's not cheap, but we felt that the package represented good value and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: We had room 9, which is a suite with a raised seating area and small study area. It's a large r...

I really want to like this hotel, it has so much potential but....
The good:
We were upgraded to a lovely appearing room on arrival, as our booking confirmation suggested (we had to point that out)
The location is lovely.
The dining room service is good and the food is good
The bathrooms and bedding were clean
The bad:
The rooms are shabby and need a lot of TLC. The carpet in our room was disgusting and they had thrown down two dirty fuzzy white throw rugs overtop of two really disgusting looking stains, that looked like they had barely been cleaned. I did not walk on the carpet in bare feet.
The heat did not work in our room, we were told that there was a space heater we could use, but that didn't work either. They did give me another duvet.

This Hotel could be beautiful - and if it had been perfect, we probably would not have gotten the good deal we received from the booking agency. But for my next trip back to this area, I will look around for other options. In the UK it seems very hit or miss.

we stayed at The Botleigh Grange Hotel for 2 nights pre cruise and 1 night post cruise.
This is our 3rd year of staying at this hotel
We find it comfortable without being overbearing.
We noticed that it is undergoing a change of ownership.
There was a big improvement in the way that breakfast is served compared to previous occasions, in so far as the breakfast was all buffet. This expedited the event and we were able to put on our plates exactly what we required.
We will be returning again in the future.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pond at the rear!

Very disappointed in the Spa day. Unbelievable that there are no refreshments ( except water) to be had in the Spa - they expect you to go in robe and slippers outside , round the building and then back into the hotel - and it was pouring with rain - ridiculous!
Showeres were so calcified itwas almost impossible to have a good shower, masseuse was a bit heavy handed with my facial and was very rough over the delicate skin on my eyes. Couches were uncomfortable particularly for your head, lighting in the relaxation troom was not friendly and the music too loud - a poor experience

I attended the Hampshire Care Association awards night at this hotel at the end of Noveember.

The hard work that went into making the venue a suitable place for an awards night was outstanding. The theme of winter mountains and the acompanying colour scheme was excellant. An attraction for guests at the awards night wasthe dodgem rides which were well recieved by all who rode them.

The staff worked very hard to make everyone welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. One only had to ask. The menu options were value for money for the choices on offer. Indeed, I personally thought the food was well cooked and presented professionally. I ddi hear that some thought the veggies were too hard. Perhaps they like their veg boiled to death!!!

The room we had was comfortable and adequete for an overnight stay. The grounds that the hotel is located in are splendid and well kept.

If I had any points or suggestions to make they would be these.
The hotel looks a little tired and does need freshening up.
The bar prices are expensive.

Despite these two points, I would stay there again, mainly because the staff work hard for the guests and make you feel rerally welcome. This counts for a lot.

Whilst I agree that the decor is a bit dated, and some of the maintenance of the building needs some seeing to, we had the most memorable stay for all the right reasons.

A beautiful drive up to a most impressive building with lovely gardens, followed by a very warm welcome from the receptionist.

Our room was very clean, and very comfortable.

We had done the group on deal, so enjoyed a delicious tea in the comfortable lounge overlooking the beautiful garden.

I then enjoyed a trip to the spa, with two walls of the pool being glass, it was so lovely to swim looking out at the sun setting over the grounds.

We couldn't rave enough about the dinner - absolutely delicious and efficient and polite service.

We rang reception at 10.30pm to say we didn't have a pen to fill out our request for room service breakfast...one was brought to us in less than 2 minutes.

Finally, room service breakfast was prompt and had exactly what we ordered.

Overall, we couldn't rate this hotel more highly, and can't wait to go back, when we will be definitely booking a spa treatment each!!!
